Our program today was hosted by Rita Varner-Otness and featured some of our students from Rotary’s STRIVE program at the high school.

The STRIVE program helps senior students enhance their GPA, increase their attendance, improve their attitude, and find their strengths thru the Strength Finder program.  Students, matched with Rotarian mentors, meet monthly to work on these skills.  Next year the STRIVE program will be for Juniors so that students can stay with the program for two years.

Students were appreciative of the STRIVE program offering the following comments:
  • “STRIVE helped me get my GPA up to a level I never imagined!”
  • “STRIVE taught me skills to keep up with my school work!”
  • “My STRIVE mentor helped me find a career path!”
  • “STRIVE made me more focused on school and my grades!”
  • “The Strengths Finder validated my strengths and confirmed that I did have strengths!”

Rotarian Judge Halsey provides a program each year on How to Maximize Your Performance and responsibilities Now That You’re 18.  Counselors assist with skills such as Job Applications, Interview Skills, and Post Secondary / Career Opportunities. Our own Jason Nelson ends their year with a motivational session!

Thank you Rita for leading this program the past 6 years.  Thanks also to our mentors and presenters. Thank you Jackie Wurm for printing the special certificates presented to our students today.

Have a great week, BE THE INSPIRATION, and see you next week at Rotary!!
