On Thursday, January 21st, 2016, Patrick Mader spoke to the rotarians about his book “Minnesota Gold.” Minnesota has over 300 living Olympians and Mader had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing 57. He interviewed athletes from a variety of 20 sports and who competed in Olympics over 50 years apart. The most experienced Olympian he interviewed was Ruben Bjorkman, 86, who competed in the 1948 Olympics on the men’s hockey team. Madera also interviewed Jim Mastro. Mastro lost full vision at a young age but was able to place third in the able-bodied Olympic trials in wrestling.
