ShelterBoxUSA is a tremendous program whose mission is to deliver humanitarian relief in the form of equipment and materials that bring shelter, warmth and dignity to people made homeless by natural or other disasters worldwide. This year, Rotary District 5950 issued a challenge to students in the district to raise funds for ShelterBox. Every dollar raised by students and in part matching contributions from our club will be matched by the District.

In a brainstorming session a while ago, Krista Kronlokken, one of our marketing interns this year, suggested that we sell Krispy Kreme doughnuts to raise money. You can't get Krispy Kreme's in the area any more. The closest location is in Clive, Iowa, just outside of Des Moines, which is about 225 miles from Eden Prairie. As a result of the difficulty in getting Krispy Kremes, we think there will be extremely high demand because everyone likes Krispy Kremes and no one can get them.

We are conducting this fundraiser in conjunction with the EPHS Interact Club. This is the first time we've worked with Interact, which is another exciting aspect of this project. Our goal is to sell at least 100 dozen, which would generate about $1,500 in profit for ShelterBox. We hope to match that with funds from our Club, which will then get matched by the District resulting in $6,000 or 6 ShelterBoxes. That would be a very successful fundraiser.

Although there are a number of people involved in this program, it's really being driven by the students. It really cool to see their creativity and enthusiasm for this project.
