Rotary Club Prague International was privileged to welcome Debashish Chaudhuri and Lenka Černá as guest speakers at our weekly meeting. Debashish is a renowned conductor who was born in Calcutta, India and now lives in Prague. He has a rich European repertoire, 15 years of professional experience with various orchestras and 19 years of professional teaching experience. He inspired us with his vision that music and in particular a Philharmonic orchestra can be used to support charitable causes.

In 2006 he initiated a special annual concert under the auspices of Lions Club honoring visually handicapped people, its 8th year welcomed a top virtuoso Vaclav Hudecek. Since then Debashish, as well as his professional conducting appearances, has been conducting orchestras where teh purpose of the performance is to inspire, entertain, educate and at the same time raise funds for charitable causes. He has worked with phenomenally talented musicians and soloists some of whom are disabled. Debashish said that he was humbled by the outstanding passion of the disabled performers who used music as a medium to excel.

Debashish challenged RCPI to consider organising a charity concert and offered his services not only to conduct but also, together with his manager Lenka, to help to organise such an event.

A truly inspiring speaker who transmits energy, enthusiasm and a true 'can-do' attitude.
