Having a well-deserved rest, President Bruce handed over to Sergeant Bob Jordan to chair the night’s meeting.
Sergeant Bob introduced Treasurer Peter Dimond to propose the toast for the night.
Peter proposed a toast to “Fathers” noting that the oldest father recorded was at the age of 92 years and 10 months, and the person who has fathered the most children was Genghis Kahn said to be many hundreds.
Members Reports
Uwe Seifert advised that he has arranged a night at the German Club to be held on Tuesday 25th October (during Octoberfest). The cost will be $30 per person. There will be a 2 course meal and a live band.
Les Bulluss gave an overview of his recent trip to Las Vegas to attend the National Native American Law Enforcement Association (NNALEA) conference - his third year.
Les was honoured to be part of the Flag ceremony
Some issues discussed at the conference included:
- Cultural support for district Indian officers
- There were 550 tribes of which has 400 police departments
- Tribes rely on funding
- Counterfeit medicine
- Community and youth programs
Almoner Bill Waller gave an overview of his role as Almoner and members he had contacted during the week.
Bill advised that he would contact members who are absent from a meeting to see if they are ok, and asked members to advise him if they are ill and if they are going away for a period of time.
Bill also advised of some members who he contacted during the week. These included Pauline Armstrong, Frank Adorjan, Keith Hawton and Cec McPaul who all had been ill but are doing well now.
Ray Milton advised he had attended the Queensland Police Service medal presentation where President Bruce Kuhn was presented with his 31 year service medal. The Broadbeach Rotary Club was also recognised at the ceremony.
Ray also advised that the Police Officer of the Year function will be held on 11th October. To date there have been 11 nominations for Police Officer of the Year, 1 nomination for Unit Station and 1 nomination for Civilian Support.
Changes to Club Bylaws
John Harding gave an overview of the changes to the Club Bylaws
The main reason for these changes was to satisfy the Gold Coast City Council in regard to negotiations with the Council for the lease of the Hub.
A copy of the changed Bylaws had been circulated to members. There were no questions from the members
At a meeting of the Club at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on 30th August 2016 the following motion was put to the membership:
“That the Rotary Club of Broadbeach Bylaws dated 30th August 2016 be adopted by the Club and replace the Bylaws dated 19th November 2013”

Harold Busch gave an overview of “Donor Life” a project of District Governor Michael Irving regarding Organ Donation.
Harold reported on a recent Public relations summit that he attended and highlighted several points made at the summit including:
- Average age in Rotary is 71 years, therefore a problem and the need for younger members
- The need for less formality
- Take advantage of changes recently made. For example weekly meetings no longer a requirement
- The image of Rotary is: Old, Grey, Pale and Stale” therefore time to improve the image
- There is a need for outcomes
- There is a need to bring Rotary to the notice of the public
- A Rockhampton Rotary Club was down to 3 members. Increased to 35 within 12 months due to changes such as no meal, 1.5hour weekly meetings.
- Younger members are better suited to satellite Clubs.
- Fully subsidise new members for the first 12 months
Sergeant session
Sergeant Bob was ably assisted by bunyips Neil Jones and Uwe Seifert.
Bob was able to settle a few scores with all the past sergeants present. This together with group fines set a Club record on a per capita basis, for a Sergeants fine session, of $67.70
