There has been an increase in the number of internet scams involving Rotary. Some of these scams are very professional in their presentation and appear to of accessed details about clubs and individuals which make them appear genuine.
1. The purpose of this communication is that you firstly be aware of the possibility that internet communication may be a scam;
2. We recommend that you do not provide banking details unless you know and have personally confirmed the person to whom you are providing those details; and
3. If in doubt carefully check the credentials before providing any money to an organisation that contacts you through the internet.
The ACCC warned that a number of scammers are impersonating official organisations such as the World Health Organisation and the Department of Health or, legitimate business’ such as travel agents and telecommunications companies.
