Sylvia Souliotis gave a very engaging Person Behind the Badge presentation. Sylvia brought her sister Mary along as a guest.
She was born in 1958
Her parents came from Greece in the 1950's. She has 2 sisters and a brother. One sister lives in the US. She currently lives with her 89 year old Mum and sister Mary who recently moved to Melbourne from Sydney
Her Grandfather used to drink kerosene! (for medicinal purposes)
She lived in Mildura until she was 17 years old and attended Mildura South Primary, Mildura High School and Mildura Tech
She moved to Melbourne after "absconding" from Mildura and worked in advertising fashion and cosmetics for 11 years.
She has been in the IT industry for 25 years: 6 years with Telstra, a 14 month secondment to the Victorian Government working with Jeff Kennett and Alan Stockdale; NEC; Tenix and then Hewlett Packard where she currently works
She has travelled extensively: went to Greece in 1998, USA many times, Dubai at least 10 times and travels a lot for work
She loves her 4 nieces and nephews, shoes, vanilla slices, friends and coffee.
Between 10am and 2pm on Saturday 5th September, Rotarians and a friend of Harvey's bunkered down outside Autobahn to sell sausages and raise funds for Blue September.
Business was intermittent - we sold $170 worth which was around 55 sausages.
Big effort by David Hatcher, Neil Ibbott and Harvey Lane for their 4 hour stints. Len Brear, Ian Armstrong, Gabby K, Michael Sukkar and Harveys friend for 2 hours each.

The annual Portsea Camp working bee is on the weekend of 10 and 11 October 2015 - Please let Wayne W know ASAP if you want to attend.
Here is an excerpt from the letter Stephen Eastop (CEO) sent to the Presidents
"The dormitory wing to the left of the drive is desperately in need of a coat or three of paint. The shower block within the wing has recently been refurbished and the interior of the dorms has been spruced up. With a bit of effort the whole area will lift.
Gardening and landscaping is a task that we struggle with, given other maintenance necessities. It’s a big site but the working bee effort allows us to keep on top of things for the rest of the year.
Gutters; I suppose we have a few kilometers of them. It would be fabulous if a team or two put some effort into cleaning them out and fitting gutter guard where needed.
Connelly Hall is showing its age. It’s solidly used by adult leaders but its walls are bowing and are badly damaged. This is one for the skilled builder rather than the handy person so if its up your alley please let me know and we’ll order in lining boards etc.
I can’t wait to catch up again. The improvements to the camp over the past year are pretty obvious – asphalt, shower and toilet partitions, sound systems, abseiling wall, painting, re-roofing, epoxy floors – lots.
I’ve attached registration forms. If these can be returned to me as soon as possible. They can always be updated closer to the time but it is always good to have an indication as to numbers.
Some photos follow -"
What needs doing:
Gutter cleaning
Gardening and weed removal
There are many weed species in the ‘Fort’ area of the camp that need to be removed. Some small, some larger so someone with experience handling a chain saw will be much valued.
Painting Connelly Hall
Double coating the building requires approximately 400 litres of paint!
The plan at this stage is that we will do some of the prep work to enable people to get started, that only those confident of their cutting in ability will do edges, others will be on rollers or scraping clean window frames.
Steps reconstruction – the Fort
Steps to the fort are in a sorry state. They could be replaced and treated pine steps installed with crushed rock as the base. It’s a task for a builder or someone with good handyman skills to lead the work.
Connelly Hall
This is very much a task for builders and, if one happens to turn up, a plasterer. We intend to clad walls in regency lining board to dado height, and plaster above. The existing fibre sheet has absorbed moisture over the years and is bowing everywhere. We will also cover the unsightly end wall. Following this work we’ll look to laying carpet squares throughout.
If you are interested in attending this function on 5th December, please let Peter Schoner know as soon as possible.

CHRISTMAS FELLOWSHIP 5TH DECEMBER
HERRING ISLAND
Hi Everyone,
With Christmas “around the corner” and the Fleet deciding to get together to celebrate “The Festive Season” on December 5 I have found our voyage to Herring Island has not been as easy as I first thought and have discovered that:
The Punt from Como to the Island starts approx. mid December and as yet Parks Victoria is unable to tell me exactly when this service will commence; as yet there is no timetable;
Captain Hamish of MV Grower (Steamboat) advises he can take us to Herring Island and pick us up at a later prearranged time. The journey will take approx. ½ hour each way and we are looking at a say a 2 hour (or longer) minimum stay. Cost is $475, so if we had 16 people this would equate to be $30 per person. Of course if we had more people cost would be less, maybe you know somebody you can invite or someone from your Club that might be interested.
My thoughts are we book MV Grower as soon as possible, so could you please indicate your agreement and commitment by 6pm, Sunday 13th September to barbara@wcinnovations.com.au
One other scenic ferry circumnavigates the Island but doesn’t stop.
Details will follow later regarding food, payment etc.
Please save the motel soaps or similar size for the 'Days for Girls' program which is a program for sending sanitation products in a wash bag for teenage girls overseas. Give them to Judith. Sandra and the RC Monash think our club is wonderful for saving all the soaps!!
Save used stamps with a good deal of the envelope! They pay by weight!
Foreign coins are being collected in a container at the desk. Ron Brooks RC Forest Hill has collected many kgs!
