Mark Huddleston
Rotary Membership
Mark Huddleston - author of Creatures of Habit - spoke (on ZOOM) on the crisis in Rotary membership.
Rotary membership has declined by at least a third since the 1980's
He has identified 5 major reasons for the significant decline .They are:
- Rotary is seen as less relevant as our average membership age increases.
- Ineffective communication
- Change in the volunteering landscape.
- Obsession with process to the detriment of outcomes
- We have become too comfortable and apathetic.
Where time is our most precious commodity, we need to consider how productive our meetings are and whether they are an effective use of a volunteer’s time.
He had run a survey of Rotarians to discover what they wanted most from Rotary
The responses when assessed by age groupings were as follows
Over 50's | Under 50's |
|
|
He emphasised the need to put SERVICE at the centre of Rotary.
