Bruce Hewett
From CEO to Novelist

Bruce Hewett spoke to us about writing and  publishing his debut novel - a pharmacrime novel set in Fiji entitled

CRY IN YOUR SLEEP.

Why Write a Book?

In Bruce Hewett’s words:

“………. each book in each of its formats has a unique ISBN or International Standard Book Number.
I figured that one day I will no longer exist on this planet, however, my ISBN will live on, and maybe somewhere, sometime in the future, someone will re-discover my novel Cry In Your Sleep. Writing the story then became a "bucket list" project culminating in the publication on Amazon. “

Bruce’s book is self-published via Amazon and you can read the blurb and/or buy a copy at

More about Bruce Hewett and how he went about achieving this particular goal......

Born and raised in Perth, Bruce Hewett graduated from Curtin University with a Bachelor of Pharmacy.
He worked in this industry for 35 years – 10 of which were spent in Fiji, where he met and married his wife.  Among other things, he competed in the 1984 LA Olympics, representing Fiji in Yachting, and was president of RC of Suva North.
He has also lived/worked in Australia, New Zealand and the UK and was CEO of  Link Pharmaceuticals.

Bruce outlined the path he had taken to enable him to write ,publish and sell his first book.

He began by embarking on an 8-week creative writing course for beginners. He then honed his writing skills by producing a blog. This provided him with ‘writing practice” and helped him build confidence in his writing skills.
He followed this up with an Advanced writing Course which helped him reflect on creating a framework for the story with consistent plot lines and character development. In the process of writing drafts and receiving feedback he learnt to be more economical with words, using fewer words to create an overall impression. Multiple drafts later, he had a book – a pharmacrime thriller set in Fiji.

Publishing:

Bruce mentioned a friend and mentor Roderic Grigson, who had provided him with much encouragement and information. On Grigson’s website, I found info that encapsulates the publishing process at
