Held at the Kings Park Tennis Club
The brainchild for this fellowship evening was Linda O’Brien, beautifully supported by Margaret Mason. So many of our successful socials appear to have these two members in the foreground.In realisation of our community partnerships, the committee of Kings Park Tennis Club readily agreed to allow our club the use of its clubhouse which is well equipped to cater for most functions at no cost. More so to this the club president, George Leighfield attended as bar manager for the evening.
We welcomed six of the tennis club members, Bill and Barbara Chapman from RC Moorabbin, Liz Denittis RC South Melbourne, Tony Fritzlaff and 20 of our club members and partners.
Catering was exceptional, food plentiful and I saw many coming back for 2nd helpings.
We enjoyed a violin recital from a very talented young member of the tennis club Amanda who
welcomed guests with her playing at the beginning of the night and just after dinner. That was a real treat for those smart enough to come along.

Once we had eaten and our vocal cords lubricated the Poetry component of the evening commenced. MC for this was John Mason, who got the ball rolling with his contribution of verse. There was serious poetry from well-known writers, some not so serious verses, self-written limericks from Karin Soster. Those who had a wider appreciation of poetry and verse were obvious on the night from the pieces they had selected and the introduction to their recital.
Guest judge for the poetry trophy was Greg O’Shea and the winner of this most prestigious piece of trophy was none other than Grant Perry.

Desert, tea and coffee followed after the Poetry component along with lots of chatter from all.
George Leighfield, President of the tennis club thanked our group for the donation in previous financial years that allowed the club to update its court lights – court 2 was lit up to demonstrate how valuable that donation to the club had been.
