We are also grateful for the great support from our friends from Rotaract Munich-International and München-Mitte as well as Interact Munich-International. The donations are intended for the Barefoot College in India and for our Orlandus Lassus Foundation. Some impressions you'll find on our art auction website.
The Rotary Club Munich-International proudly marked its presence at the District 1842 Conference held in Passau from 30th June to 2nd July 2023. Our delegation of nine members was amongst the more than 200 participants who gathered for the conference and its accompanying program.

We started with almost 50 historic and special automobiles on our first Charity Rallye after the pandemic. After the prelude and the briefing of the drivers in Hermannsdorf, we went on a wonderful route of about 170 km into the foothills of the Alps. Despite threatening clouds, the weather remained kind to us. Three stages were completed, with stops at Café Pauli and Gut Ising. Thereby the conversations among the guests as well as the shop talk did not come too briefly. The last stage ended with the award ceremony and a big applause for the organizing team at Gut Sonnenhausen. We thank all guests, because they made it possible to make another substantial contribution to the joint Ukraine project of the Munich Rotary Clubs.
We are getting closer to our art auction. Now the art auction catalogue is ready for download.

The Rotary Art Auction - a good action with and for young people
Promote young musicians and help seriously ill children. Under this heading, RC Munich International conducted its art auction. In addition to its international commitment, RC München International supports two major projects right on its doorstep. On the one hand, he founded the Orlandus Lassus Foundation for the promotion of highly gifted, needy music students and the multi-club initiative Rotary4Hauner, which bundles a sustainable contribution from Rotary as part of the construction of the new Hauner Children's Hospital in Munich. The auction attracted over 200 guests and art lovers, including Rotarians from 20 clubs. A report in the Süddeutsche Zeitung was highly appreciated.
On July 2nd 2018 our new president Dieter Wegener invited generously our club members to his home to celebrate the Change of Guards. Here he received the official bell from past president Sibille Vinzens.....
On June 9th2018 the 9th Charity Car Rallye took place. Starting from Zorneding the carefully selected tour of 177 km leads us to lake Chiemsee were we met friends from RC Traunstein.

We thank all members and guests who contributed to the spectacular evening!
On Monday, October 24th, 2016, RCMI members and friends had the pleasure of enjoying the 10 year anniversary concert of the Orlandus Lassus Foundation, which we have been supporting for many years.
On Saturday, October 8th 2016, a brave and cheerful group of Rotarian hikers set off in Lenggries for a charity hike up to the Brauneck Hütte on 1540m. The proceeds of the charity hike of around €450 went to the Orlandus Lassus Stiftung.
Many friends from our club met with visitors from our partner club RC Milano Internationale in Munich. First we had dinner on Friday in the Spatenhaus in Munich, Saturday morning a gallery and museum visit followed by lunch. Then many friends travelled to Regensburg to meet with the RC Regensburg Porta Praetoria and enjoy a guided tour of the city and a boat trip.
At our last Club Assembly of this rotarian year our president Burkhard Gessner honoured 10 fellow rotarians for their commitment to rotary over the past years with a Paul Harris Fellow award.
„The seven last words of our Saviour on the Cross“ had been composed by Joseph Haydn for orchestra, string quartett and also as an oratorium. Addidionally a version for piano had been authorized by Haydn.
In contrast to the original Yaara Tal combined the seven sonatas by Haydn with a very intersting selection out of Arnold Schönberg´s „6 small piano-pieces“ op. 19 and Bela Bartok´s „Dawn“ with specific accents to the melancholy passion-music.
Many members and guests participated at our Classic Car Rallye last Saturday, 30 April 2016 to support children and the charity initiative Rotary4Hauner.
A few places are still available for the 7th Charity Car Rallye on 30-Apr-2016 that will let discover the participants some less frequented but very nice surroundings in the north of Munich.
Our Orlandus Lassus scholar Anna Buchberger took a very important step towards her career.
Anna Buchberger, who was awarded with an Orlandus Lassus Foundation scholarship between 2009 – 2012, played a piano recital as part of her examinations of the master's degree to complete her studies in the class of Professor Margarita Höhenrieder. Everyone in the audience was truly moved by the concert last Thursday, the 11th of February at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich.
500 plastic bottle caps, usually thrown away or given back to the shop. 500 plastic caps can save a child's life! The German organisation "Deckel Drauf" ("Caps on") have set up a charity which collects bottle caps and recycles these http://deckel-gegen-polio.de/causes/end-polio-now/. Our Rotary Club has been collecting lids for two months and at our club assembly we presented collected works - 17 kilos of lids - these can save 17 lives! Thank you to all who participated.
Deckel drauf - 8500 bottle caps collected for polio
At today's meeting we welcomed guests from around the world. Three guests had their banners with them, others enjoyed the meeting sending Rotarian greetings from all continents.
Last Friday our Rotary Club completed another successful art auction. Over 250 guests were present to bid for wonderful works of art, this year some spectacular pieces were up for grabs.
A big thank you to all who were involved in making this a resounding success.
The date of the 2016 event has already been fixed: 11. November 2016 - please save the date!
We’re delighted to report that [today] Nigeria has passed one year with no new cases of the wild poliovirus.
This is the longest the country has ever gone without a case of polio and a critical step on the path toward a polio-free Africa. We’ve come a long way since the bleak years when the virus reached its peak. It was only a decade ago that polio struck 12,631 people in Africa- three quarters of all cases in the world.
At last nights meeting our president Burkhard Gessner exchanged banners with Stuart Whyte, Development Director - KRBD-FM and a member of Rotary 2000, Ketchikan, Alaska.
At our club meetings we have so called Black Boxes, which are money boxes used for spontaneous collection for special activities. The Black Boxes were also supported by several donation direct debit lists.
Rotary is truly international! Our rotarian fellow Jochen Schaefer was in Seoul (Korea) to visit a rotary meeting and met one of our past members Marc de Vestele there! He has relocated to Seoul.
Our fearless skiers and today's outing with professional support by MichiGerg. many thanks once again to Michi, for the great company and a ski day in Lenggries filled with fun, educative benefits and tons of fresh air !!!
On 21st November 2014 our next Charity Art Auction will take place. More information about the event, the art work and the artists is available by downloading the catalog.

The great auditorium of the Hochschule für Musik und Theater with its wonderful acoustics and atmosphere was fully occupied with around 650 enthusiastic friends.
The concert promoter Paul Lenz gave a short introduction to welcome the audience and to express our gratitude to the musicians and the Hochschule.
The poorest of the poor, many of these women are illiterate, come here - the Barefoot College in India Tiloni. In the project, they are trained in six months to become solar engineers: you learn how to build, install and operate a solar lamp. When they return to their families, they bring with them their knowledge and light.
On July 07th Claas Kohl (r.) handed over the bell to Gregor Matthies (l.). The club members gave Claas a very big hand for his engaged and very successfully presidency and welcomed Gregor in his new role.
We welcome Amelie Winkhaus and Patrick Hettenbach to the Club!!! They were initiated through a short ceremony and both look forward to helping in any way they can! Both also have a long History in Rotaract and therefore they are well acquainted with general Rotarian/Rotaract ideals.
Please welcome our newest members Amelie Winkhaus and Patrick Hettenbach
Congratulations to our founding member Tatjana Anderer for her Paul Harris Fellow awarded today. Tatjana was instrumental in the set up of the highly successful annual charity bazaar raising over €10k this year alone.
The bicycle tour in which several of our members participated came to a successful conclusion last weekend. Congratulations! Follow the activities of the RCMI cycling team on their Blog here: http://bicycletour4rotary.wordpress.com/
The bicycle tour for Polio has not just the hazard of over 500kms to cycle, but as you can see also some serious ups and downs... Shame they can't use the motorway...
Our exchange students Asthon Drake (left) from East London in South Africa and Annika Schott (right) from Munich shared their experience of being abroad and diving into a new culture.
Asthon and Annika participated both in the short-term exchange programme (STEP) and have been very enthusiastic about their experience ob being a couple of weeks abroad in a different cultural environment. At the occasion of the club meeting on 09-Dec-2013 they both gave a short and humorous insight into the differences between the two countries they could observe.
Short-term exchange students share their experience
The next rotarian year will bring a few changes. The now oversized District 1840 with 108 clubs will be split into 1841 and 1842.
To mark the end of the District 1840, District Governor Joachim Heintz organised a special conferee this weekend, starting with an entertaining evening event in the Bayerischer Hof with music, humour and an excellent array of speakers. The next day was focussed an more topical rotarian issues.
Here we see past president Peter Llewellyn-Davies, who was master of ceremonies for the two day event, calling the 250 rotarians and guests to order.
After all the trouble I have caused with "my" chess-amongst-Munich-Rotarians idea, I think you might be interested in the "exoneration" that you will find in the subsequent report:

Over 120 members, guests and performers celebrated 10 years of RCMI!
In celebration of this event President Michael Vogel presented a portrait of all past presidents of the club, which was auctioned, raising €1200. The generous donor decided to give the portrait back to the club as a gift.
The incoming President of our Rotary Club Munich International Prof. Dr. Ekkart Zimmermann for the upcoming RY 2011/12 has held a speach in the occasion of our "Change of Guards" meeting on July 4 in the Waldwirtschaft.
Some 15 members of our club challenged 1st grade pupils at chess at a recent meeting at the Burmeister school. Chess in schools is one of our projects to encourange children from areas of racial integration and conflict to find other, more diplomatic methods of communicating as well as improving concentration and learning skills.
The club's activities were rewarded at the district conference in May, first prize for the "Best Internet presentation" as well as First and Second prizes for "Best Polio project".
16 representatives of our club visited the RC Milan International to hold the first of many joint meetings. president Franco Santini welcomed us to a joint meeting on 25 May 2010.
To strengthen ties to our partner club in Milano and to escape vanity and massive rainfall at home an (almost) mighty dozen of fellow rotarians crossed the Alpes in diverse routes. When in Milan, these humble ambassadors were succinctly guided through the Ambrosian library (being strongly impressed, e.g., by scripts such as an illustration of the Iliad fifteen-hundred years old, dozens of Leonardo's drawings and his portrait of a musician) and well-received, with the first course of the dinner being served about entering the club restaurant (Hilton Tucherpark be aware!) so that all had the stamina to listen to the welcome talks and a lecture of one of our Italian friends sparing us only one or two little details of the 19th world exhibition in Milan.
The next day in the morning was left to human allotria or high culture (e.g. Leonardo's last supper: the preregistration rules give you a high probability to receive a return ticket. - go there before your own l.s.!) and in the afternoon for a wonderful reception and meal in Sacro Monte near San Julia d'Orta. The park struck one as the gral, the Arcadia, the German Weimar cultural classical heroes were longing for.
A short walk (downhill) helped to explore this wonderful spot where friend Peter Schulz von Siemens generously invited everyone to his own arcadia on a small island.
In short, a highly enriching excursion, only shortly interrupted by a rainy thunderstorm our best friend for months now.

A great success! Automobile enthusiasts not demotivated by a weather-wise unsettled Saturday met south of Munich for a great experience organised by Michael Vogel and Claas Kohl. A trip of about 200km (for those who got lost it was more) through most beautiful countryside, made more thrilling by challenging questions and answers.
A full house was not really expected, but so many Rotarians and guests came to the meeting to celebrate a new Rotarian year in the Schloss Blutenburg that additional tables and more food had to be organised, giving us a later start and finish than planned. In the end despite the very warm temeratures almost full presence and a wonderful evening for all.
Immediate Past President Peter Llewellyn-Davies started the meeting as usual and held his parting speech.
Yaara Tal & Andreas Groethuysen are performing for the Orlandus Lassus foundation on 29. September 2014 | 19:30 hrs at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater, Großer Saal, Arcisstraße 12, Munich.
Further details are available here including the programme flyer
We sadly say goodbye to our past president, chairman of our Orlandus Lassus foundation and multiple Paul Harris Fellow Klaus Schreiter, who will be moving to Göttingen. You will be missed and your personal involvement for the club is memorable. We look forward to seeing you again when you visit Munich!
Three president generations shown at last night's club assembly; Claas Kohl, current president (M); Gregor Matthies, incoming president (R) and Burkhard Gessner, newly elected president elect 2015/16 (L). Power to the presidents!
The German speaking Rotary Districts agreed to organize a Germany-wide bicycle trip for all. The participants will then all meet in Frankfurt where a central event with more than 500 participating Rotarians will take place on 3 May 2014.
The venture will support the End polio Now project. This is definitely a good opportunity to put life into our Rotary lives…!
A delightful concert for visitors of our Meeting on 14 April, one of this year's stipendiate of our Orlandus Lassus Foundation presented works from Brahms, Elgar and other famous pieces to our members and guests.
Orlandus Lassus Foundation stipendiate: Agnes Pusker
On 11 April 2014 we will repeat the fantastic event from last year. Once again we will be collecting used but good luxury items for sale at the Arbeitsamt Munich.
Please contact Tatjana Anderer by clicking on her name for further details. Here are some pictures from last year's event.
We obtained record donations at our art auction last Friday, much more than expected. The donations will be transformed into long-term support for the Orlandus-Lassus Foundation, Rotary4Hauner and the Rotaract KidsCamp. The thanks of the president and the club go to all bidders who, with their bids made it happen.
A bunch of Rotarians paid their respects to the End Polio Now train visiting Munich Station twice on Saturday.
Early riser Caroling Lindenbeck decided to don her running shoes and the shirt that helped her complete the Munich marathon for Polio in 2010, meeting District governor Bulla at 7.30 am.
Other Rotarians from our club including president Claas Kohl and family as well as past presidents Frank Sehr and Peter Llewellyn-Davies and Rotaract past president Patrick Hattenbach met up with the train on platform 13 and District Governor Michael Bulla. Michael had been spending the trip handing out brochures to alert the public of the neccesity to continue supporting this deadly disease.
The fundraising activities for the new Hauner Clinic in Munich have taken a huge step forward.
On Friday, 18 October 2013 eight Rotary Clubs and one Rotaract Club signed a new Charter for the Rotary 4 Hauner fundraising activities.
The Rotary and Rotaract Clubs in the Munich area are joining forces to create a critical mass to invest in a ward or a dedicated area of the Hauner Clinic which should be named in honour of the Rotary clubs involved.
The joint project to support the activities of the Dhulikhel Hospital in Kathmandu totalling over US$ 70,000 has received a matching grant from rotary international. The Rotary clubs RC Freising, RC Dhulikhel, RC Munich International and RC Neustadt-Vohburg/Donau together committed to support the hospital in financing modern x-ray and ultrasound technology for the hospital, which covers the population of approximately 1.9 million people from Kavrepalanchowk, Sindhu-palchowk, Dolakha, Sindhuli, Ramechhap, Bhaktapur and other surrounding districts.
Our district governor Michael Bulla visits our club. Since the old district 1840 was split at the beginning of the rotarian year Michael has 51 clubs to visit within his term. The new district 1842 still represents a lot of clubs but thankfully much less than the previous 102 clubs in the old district.

Seitdem erfreut sich die Kunstversteigerung großer Beliebtheit und ist immer gut besucht. Im Interview mit Florian Gottschall (Rotary eClub Berlin Global) erfahren wir mehr über die Arbeit und das Konzept dahinter.
According to my commitment to Rotary's motto "Service above Self" on November 6, 2011 I participated at the NY Marathon 2011 in order to raise funds for supporting several humanitarian projects such as (a) Rotary's PolioPlus initiative to eradicate poliomyelitis across the world as well as specific programs of our partner club Rotary Club New York in view of (b) serving pediatric cancer patients, (c) providing open heart surgery to children from countries where such care is unavailable, and (d) supporting humanitarian programs in New York City and beyond through the NY Rotary Foundation.
Not only I crossed the finish line in Central Park after 3h55m31s, but also was able to fundraise over 5000 US$ for the above projects.
Thank you very much to all my supporters!

New York Marathon 2011 - Running 26.2 miles to save lives!
Together with Anna Buchberger, Federica Monti and Fabio Bianco, our scholarship holders of the Orlansus Lassus Foundation, we celebrated at the Musikhochschule Munich the 200th birthday of Franz Liszt
3 of our members made the trip to Montreal to share with 18500 Rotarians the look and feel of the international Rotarian family. Lisa von mengden, Herwig paretzke and our Imm. Past President Peter Llewellyn-Davies made the trip, impressions can be viewed here.
The response at the meeting on 1 March was overwhelming, 10 members present at the event "Challenging the NYC marathon" spontaneously volunteered to run/walk the Munich marathon in October this year with the goal, not only to have a good time but to raise as much as possible for a good cause related to Rotary.
