From The Editor.
Good morning to all my fellow Mornington Rotarians and their Partners. Well another Easter has come and gone and I hope you all had a very enjoyable and safe Easter. However you wish to celebrate this special occasion in your lives the one item of note that talking to my contacts around town is one of family, and many people have commented that over the past few years of isolation it has made them aware of the times we could not be together which has now reinforced need to have family close by and spend quality time with the "kids and Grand-kids". For those who partake in the Easter Egg feast I hope you didn't indulge too much, very yummy but in moderation, and on a note of food I can say with a certain degree of confidence we won't be partaking of Red Rooster or Kebabs in Mornington for some time to come, it was a bit of a shock to turn on the TV and see our local town as National front page news.
For those who keep up todate in whats happening around town, I'm sure you have noticed the full double page spread advertisement and article on pages 20 & 21, in this weeks edition of our local MPNG Newspaper in regards to the Rotary 100th Year Major Project, a very eye catching item of note !!!
Next Club Meeting - 75th Anniversary Dinner.
Our next Club Meeting this coming Thursday evening will be in the form of our Clubs 75th Anniversary Dinner. The doors have now closed, so to say, and all preparations have been finalised with 70 Current Members, Past Members, Partner's and Special Guests attending the dinner. There has been a lot of work and behind the scenes and some special contributions by many members to bring this special evening to fruition and it should prove to be a very enjoyable evening. A time to reflect, re-new old aquaintences, reminisce and partake in an evening of fellowship that brings us together as Rotarians.
Up Coming Community Project
Some time ago our Community Chair, Ross Kilborn, applied for a grant with view to "clean up/ reinvigorate" an area within our town that has slowly fallen into a sad state of neglect so from Ross the news is: "We’ve been granted $2960 in South East Water’s Community Grants Program.
I’m excited to let you know our application for revegetation at Hunters Crossing through South East Water’s 2022 Community Grants program was successful out of 154 high quality applications. South East Water noted that its panel of independent employee judges were impressed with our proposal.
Hunters Crossing is the pedestrian bridge across Tanti Creek near the intersection of Pentecost and Yuilles Road. It’s an important access point for local residents and is likely to be part of the Peninsula Trail. We are working with the Friends of Tanti Creek on the project.
South East Water is interested in visiting us over the coming months to promote our project, and the work we do to support the community. More details in the coming weeks.

" A New Team in Town"
The task of sourcing Guest Speakers for a Rotary Club is always ongoing, subject to unexpected change's with availability and the nature and diversity of whom and what is presented at Club Meetings and to that extent our Club nows see's a small new Committee/ Team of 4 members who will undertake this task. Our new Guest Speaker Team comprises of John Parkinson, Ken Bilham, Joe Siragusa and Peter Jay. These fine good looking gents will now "swing into action" and should any of our Club Members have a contact or spy a member from our local or Peninsula Business or Community that you believe may be a potential Guest at our Club to present an interesting topic, please call on any one of our "fantastic four"
ANZAC Day 2022
As noted in last weeks Club Bulletin the Mornington Secondary College has extended an invitation to our members to attend their ANZAC Day Service followed by Morning Tea, to be conducted within the College's Grounds on Tuesday 26th April 2022 commencing at 11:00am. If you are planning to attend the service you will need to arrive at the College's Main Reception Office at 10;30am to sign in. Also it is important to inform our current Youth Chair, Judy Seager, so she can provide numbers of our Members to the College. Good morning to all,
Presidents Absence
As a courtesy I would just like to inform all that I will “away on holidays” commencing as of this coming Friday 22nd April 2022 and I will be back in town on Tuesday 10th May 2022. My location is such that Mobile phone and Internet coverage can best be described as “very ordinary”, so should members need assistance, in lieu of my time away, please contact our Secretary, Ian Horton, Treasurer Eileen Prudden or our past President Ross Kilborn.
Assistance to Mornington RSL
With the request for assistance as presented at last weeks Club Meeting from Leigh Power in that the numbers at our local Mornington RSL are “dropping away” and the need for help to sell ANZAC Day Badges was well received and subsequently we had some 6 Members answer “the call to arms“. This helping hand to support our RSL is still ongoing this week up until ANZAC Day and I’m sure here at Mornington Rotary we always contribute to this extremely worthwhile cause and purchase a badge to be worn with pride to support, remember and honour those men and women of our ADF who have served and are currently serving our country with pride.

During World Immunization Week, 24-30 April, let’s advocate for polio eradication and the importance of vaccines to the health and well-being of our communities. Vaccines are one of the greatest advances of modern medicine. They’re safe, effective, and save millions of lives each year. Our progress in the fight to end polio is proof that vaccines work. The Global Polio Eradication Initiative estimates that the polio vaccine has saved more than 20 million children around the world from paralysis. We need to continue vaccinating children against polio, because as long as the poliovirus circulates anywhere, it is a threat everywhere. |
Here’s how you can support Rotary’s efforts during World Immunization Week:
- Use the World Immunization Week Toolkit for graphics and sample posts to share on social media with the hashtags #EndPolio and #VaccinesWork.
- Donate to PolioPlus to help Rotary and our partners deliver polio vaccines to vulnerable children. Or start an online fundraiser using Raise for Rotary and share it with your friends, colleagues, and family members. All contributions will be matched 2-to-1 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
