Rotary After Hours Aug 21

On August 21, there was no noon meeting.  Instead we joined the Evening Fellowship for a meeting and guest night.   President Rob Marschke welcomed all Rotarians and guests. 

 

Jephta Bernstein expressed her thanks to the club for the Community Grant to her charity, Off the Hook Arts. 

 

Robin Steele introduced prior RCFC member Joyce Dickens, who briefly told about her visit to Chiquimula, Guatemala.  Joyce was in the process of traveling around the world with her husband with a stop in Chiquimula where she accidentally arrived in time to help inaugurate a water treatment facility (a facility that had been supported by RCFC for the town.  As a result, she represented RCFC at that inauguration.  Joyce is considering rejoining RCFC. 

 

Larry Salman briefly talked about some of the visitation activities and opportunities within Rotary International. 

 

Chuck Rutenberg, past District 5440 Governor, reminded us that one of the focus activities of Rotary International is elimination of polio, pointing out that there had been only three countries in the world, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Nigeria, with “wild” polio.  He then announced that there had been no new reports of “wild” polio in Nigeria for three years, leading to the expectation that Nigeria will be removed from the list of countries with polio.
