It has been another busy week.  This end of financial year stuff has got hairs on it.  But that’s what I get for being in the business I am.

Our speaker this week was from RAWCS (Rotary Australia World Community Service).  He explained the importance of registering projects and the difference between Rotary Foundation and RAWCS.  RAWCS does not give out money, it deals more with the organisation and compliance aspects of projects.

A project registered with RAWCS means that the project team are covered by the Rotary Australia Personal Accident/Sickness and Travel Policy so if anything happens they can get the best medical care and be medevaced home if required.

The guys at RAWCS are a font of information and very willing to offer advice as our very own PP Gus knows.  David Nutter gave the vote of thanks.

David R’s wife Sue and Malcolm Findlay (our District’s RAWCS person) were also at the meeting.  David tried to get Malcolm to speak but was unsuccessful, I think he was a bit shy.
We were lucky enough to have a visiting Rotarian from the Island of the Long White Cloud, Kathryn Coolbear-Stern who was visiting her family in Berwick.  She is a member of the Rotary Club of Milson in the North Island.

I had the opportunity to talk to Kathryn after the meeting and she said she really enjoyed her night with us and felt very welcome.  I believe she will visit us again next time she is in Australia.  I gave her a Club flag to take home to her Club.

We had a report from our new Treasurer Gary who explained what he would like the Attendance people to do for him each week.  He then told us he was going on holiday for 6 weeks.  Lucky him!

PP Peter Mangan gave us an update on the renaming of Pioneer Park and asked for suggestions for alternative sites.  Some of those suggested included the garden area in the middle of Berwick High Street and Casey ARC.  PP Peter will keep us informed.

Bob advised us that Tara has been selected as our Outgoing 2019 Rotary Youth Exchange Student.  Tara and her mother will attend a Rotary Club of Berwick meeting on Wednesday 8th August so we will all get to meet them.  Clare Ganderton is Tara’s Counsellor.

PP Gus told us about the Casey Council celebration in Pioneer Park for the 150 Years of Berwick on 1st September.  They have asked our Club to put on a BBQ for visitors.  It is a good little fundraiser for us so please support it.

David Collyer called for nominations for the BDBS Board and four people were nominated for Treasurer, Secretary and general Committee members.  A reminder to everyone that the Benevolent Society is a completely separate entity to the Rotary Club so the members of the Society do not have to be Rotarians.

Cheryl Zuhlsdorf brought our attention to The Casey Homeless Sleepout hosted by Casey Council to raise awareness of the growing issue of homelessness in our community.  This is something that I feel we, as those who have, could really get behind.  If you don’t want to sleep out, you could donate.  Steve and I are going to join the sleep-out but we may need Cheryl’s massage skills to be able to move again after the event on the 11th August 2018.  I think I will find that I like sleeping in better than sleeping out.

Don’t forget to contact David Grant if you didn’t receive your Tax receipt for Centurion Club donations.

PP Funno had an apprentice in the Heads and Tails coin toss this week.  Our newest member, Adwin, did a great job and the prize was won by our in-holiday-mode Treasurer Gary.

Had a lovely afternoon at the Nutter’s on Saturday with the Inner Wheel ladies.  The company was great and it was terrific to see the different Inner Wheel Clubs in attendance as well as a number of members from our Rotary Club.

That’s it from me for this week.

Over and out.
