President MARK IRVIN updated the Club on the ongoing COVID protocols.  Members can be identified by wearing a ribbon that expresses their desire to Social Distance and avoid contact during the Meet and Greet time prior to the start of the meetings. President MARK asked people to be respectful of other's level of comfort during these COVID times.
 
PRESIDENT MARK directed a moment of silence for the People of Ukraine.
 
President MARK introduced WOCKY REDSAR to lead the Club in the Pledge of Allegiance.  And she was joined by Sargent at Arms KHRIS DODGE on the Steal drum for the song ‘The Star Spangled Banner’.
 
KIM ADAIR member since March 2021 and Business designation Community and Social Services, Arizona Bowl and Graduate of Northern Arizona University, gave the Inspiration. She spoke of her favorite week in Tucson with all of the activities going on that attract a worldwide audience with the Cologuard Classic Champions Golf Tournament and the Tucson Rodeo week and Horse Races.  Each of these events are run by nonprofits that want to bring visibility and tourism to Tucson while at the same time giving back to the community.   She spoke of the spirit of giving and charity and that the person who serves almost always benefits more than the folks being served.  Thank you to those wonderful events in our City.
 
KHRIS DODGE, Sargent at Arms, member since February 2020, Graduate of U of A and Owner of Khris Dodge Entertainment, introduces the many Guests and Visitors that were in attendance and thanked them for joining our meeting.
 
President MARK introduced the Program for the meeting, the Tucson High School Jovert Steel Drum Band.  The Band which was started 23 years ago with KHRIS DODGE as the Leader / Teacher.  KHRIS mentioned that this is his last year teaching at Tucson High and being the Director of the Jovert Band. The High School kids’ performance on the Steel Drums was absolutely fantastic.  The theme for the show was ‘Happiness’ with the students picking all of the songs for the performance.  Everyone was amazed by the energy of these talented performers. President MARK expounded on the creation of an event called ‘The Event’ some 20 years ago, where the Jovert Steel Band was featured and has played most every year since.
 
The Make Way for Books library donation was the book ‘Drummer Boy of John John’ with every single member of the band signing the book.
 
President MARK acknowledged the Birthdays for this week’s meeting. DREW VACTOR  03/01 and DAN DEVOU 03/26.  Happy Birthday gentlemen!!!
 
Two New Members were recognized. 
 
DOT KRET introduced YVETTE MARIE MANGAILLAN.  She has multiple College Degrees and works with Pediatric Autism Children and Parents.  Last year she started an online company, designation of Internet Sales and company name ‘Specialty Teas’.
 
CHUCK SAWYER introduced JON HARNED former Navy Helicopter Pilot with current Designation 'Finance’ and his company ‘Lynn Capital Private Equity Investing’ helping first time home buyers.
 
President MARK welcomed both to the Rotary Club of Tucson.
 
CHARLOTTE HARRIS gave us The History Moment.  Two weeks ago, she showed us of the very early days of what is now the Tucson Rodeo.  After that meeting, LARRY ADAMSON came over to Charlotte and told her of another moment many years ago at the Pioneer Hotel where the famous Cowboy, Monte Montana rode his horse into the Hotel Ballroom twirling his lasso.  LARRY attended the event with his Rotarian Father Harold.  Monte Montana participated in over 60 Rose Bowl Parades where Roy Rogers acknowledged Monte as the greatest Trick Roper of all times.  Charlotte found a special Issue of the Tucsotarian from November 1940 that was signed by 65 guests of that meeting at the Pioneer Hotel.
 
The Raffle ticket winner was JONI CONDIT and the King of Clubs was finally picked by one of the performers of the Jovert Steel Drum Band and was worth $3700 + dollars.  Joni said that $3000 would be donated back to Rotary, for her three grandchildren receiving their Paul Harris Fellows.
 
JOE DANISZEWSKI presented the PEACE POLE Project.  There are over 25 Peace Poles in our District 5500. The next Peace Pole being placed at Reid Park.  In 1921, Rotary International began promoting Peace throughout the World.   
 
President MARK shared IRV’s Fly Fishing wall with new photos of SARA GAAR EHRENS and Bruce Ehrens from Alaska near Prince William Sound.
 
President MARK reminded everyone of the JTED Open House on March 8th at 4pm at the new downtown Campus.  He also announced next Sunday, March 9th, at Brandi Fenton Park, Rotary will be participating in a Park Clean Up effort.
 
CHUCK SAWYER updated us on the ‘March Madness’ new member bracket Challenge. And also updated us on the next Social Mixer for March 30th  at PROOF in the St Phillips Square Outdoor Plaza
 
BRUCE JACOBS also reminded us about the PROOF Mixer.
