President CHUCK started our meeting after allowing enough time for the buffet line members to get back to their tables.
 
ELLIE PATTERSON, Past President & Incoming District Governor 2019-2020 Rotary year, gave the Inspiration.
 
A Moment of Silence took place for JIM LUBINSKI’s daughter, Nikki.  STU GOLDMAN gave a beautiful and heart rendering tribute for his friend and our past fellow Rotarian Yvonne Ervin.   Get Well cards were distributed and signed for member, TED FORSBERG.  We’re thinking of you TED!
 
The Pledge & Song were led by SARA GAAR EHRENS with GARY HIRSCH accompanying at the piano.  RICHARD KELEMEN introduced the guests and visiting Rotarians.  There were no Rotarians celebrating their birthday today at the head table.
 
BOBBY LARSON (Sergeant at Arms) reported that there were no Raffle, Recognitions or Auctions today and proceeded  right to the Announcements:
 
CHUCK SAWYER – Salvation Army Bell Ringing – referenced the pictures up on the screen of coins all over the ground and told the funny story behind it.  He thanked everyone who participated in Rotary ringing the bells for the Salvation Army and also a big thank you to NANCY PURDIN for leading this project.  President CHUCK also reminded members of the Alamos Trip taking place on 1/31/19 through 2/4/19.  He went on to discuss the Rotary Leadership Institute  - 1/26/19 and explained this a great way for newer members to learn about Rotary and District 5500.  President CHUCK'S last announcement was about Reading Seed – a call for Reading School Coaches for Kindergarten.
 
BRETT STEIN announced the Make Way For Books Project on Saturday, January 12th from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.   Address is 700 N. Stone.  We will be doing painting, landscaping and light duty tasks.  Sign up on the home page of the website under "Upcoming Events".
 
WAYNE MEYER presented a Blue Badge to NICK JONES.  Welcome to Blue, Nick!
 
ROGER HARWELL – Rotary Scholars – Introduced 12 High School Grads (from various Tucson High Schools) that are now in college and with each scholar giving comments and gratitude to Rotary after their individual introduction.
 
PROGRAM:  BOB LOGAN introduced our program:
 
KEVIN GUY – Owner TUCSON SUGAR SKULLS “SUGAR SKULL FOOTBALL”.  Kevin explained how he and his business partner Ali Farhang came up with the name and team, TUCSON SUGAR SKULLS.  This is an indoor professional football team and will be a wonderful addition to Tucson. Kevin also explained the concept of Indoor Football and that the arrangement has been made to use the Tucson Community Center Arena for The Skull home games.  He stressed the cooperation he had from many people including Fletcher McCusker, MARK IRVIN (RCT Member), and Mike Feder in helping to coordinate the effort to get Indoor Football to Tucson.
 
PRESIDENT CHUCK presented the book “Elephants Cannot Dance” to Kevin for his signing and the book will go in the Make Way for Books’ library.  He then brought the meeting to a close with a quote and a toast.
