This newsletter has very important stuff.  Read it immediately and memorize everything.

Two big events are coming up  Saturday.  SERVE is scheduled for 7:00 am at ChristChurch.  Bob Sloan needs you to give him a hand. Go there..then come to GoddardPark for SCMRR

SCMRR.the Scott Carlson Memorial Road Race, also on Saturday.  As of  today (4/23/) Judy Pratt is reporting 387 pre-registered, a new world record.   With a beautiful day in the forecast for Saturday, we expect a new world record for total entries, eclipsing the 687 of last year.  Goddard park is going to be full of people and cars.

Judy and anyone who can help will be at GoddardPark Friday afternoon at 2:00 to get organized.  They decorate the carousel, stuff 500 bags with t-shirts, set up the registration and food tables, etc., winding up with the big cribbage tournament for those who don't want to go home.

We need you there at 8:00 am Saturday to help direct, feed and entertain the unwashed masses.   There is sort of a flurry of work at the beginning, then somewhat of a calm during the race, and then a flurry of clean-up.  Wear your Rotary hats and clothing and be ready to do what we do best.service above self.

After months of sampling wines around the country President Anderson has completed his research and our inaugural wine tasting event  will take place Thursday, May 7th from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at St. Luke's Church on Peirce Street.

Tickets are $30 each or $50 a couple.  For the convenience of those who would like to sit together, it is possible to reserve a table for eight people.  Attendance is limited to 120.

For information about tickets and to make reservations call 461-5558 - Don Anderson, or e-mail Jane Boynton jboynton@eastcoasttile.com

The evening will include tasting of 12 wines, which will be paired with hors d'oeuvres provided by Pinelli Mara.  The wines being sampled will be auctioned, so those attending will be able to take home some of their favorites.  Our Wine Sommeller is Fred Macari.

By special arrangement there will also be an auction of specialty candles and a group of CDs, whose music is themed to fit with various wine selections.

After deducting  Anderson's travel and wine purchases the club could make as much as $12.00 on this event.

Don't  go the Post Office Café next Wednesday.    Go to RockyHillSchool for our gabillion dollar meal.  The meal is under the direction and control of Vin Meola who is really holding down costs by making the pizza at  home.  For new Rotarians, our traditional food for this event is pizza, in honor of former club member  Picasso Pizza.  And..you get billed for the Million Dollar Meal (official name) whether you attend or not.  The object of this event is to serve an inexpensive meal,  charge the regular price, and the difference goes to the Rotary Foundation.    In addition to the excitement of food you eat with your hands, Ed Neff will give us a quick look at Club Runner, our new Software which will solve all our communication problems, and the Rocky Hill students will give us an update on their recent work with Habitat for Humanity in Mississippi.

Stuff  from the meeting.  We exchanged flags with Tom, a visiting Rotarian from the Orange North Rotary Club in California.

Alan Flynn has been perfect for 33 years, the same number of years he has been a member of the club.  George Cooper presented him with his 33 year pin.  The pin is also 33 years old.  George is also 33 years old.

Lou Lepry, who is 133 years old, is our oldest new Paul Harris Fellow, according to George Popella.

Lou also drew the name of the next recipient, who is Jane Boynton.

Paul Harris Fellowships represent Rotarians who have contributed $1,000 to the Rotary Foundation.  Our club has a long standing tradition of forming groups of four or five people, who  contribute $250 or $200 a year, with one member selected  each year as the recipient.  We had one group of a thousand who each gave a dollar a year, but the guy at the end of the line got tired of waiting.

If you picked the smartest person in the room on Wednesday, it probably wasn't one of us.  Our guest was Ambassadorial Scholar Chieh Hsu from Taiwan, now in her second year of study at BrownUniversity.  A graduate of the University of Taiwan, her two year scholarship is somewhat unusual.  She is a Masters Candidate in Public Policy.   Not only did she have a tremendous grasp of the history and challenges of her country, her English was more better than ours.

On May 15th President Anderson is having brain surgery.  Maybe it was back surgery, I didn't catch the exact wording.  In any event, he plans to have new parts by the time of our installation ceremony June 9th.  Members are anxiously awaiting this date, with some stocking up on  confetti for the exact moment of transition.   In regard to Don's plan for a 21 gun salute to himself, the committee reviewing the plans noted the cannons, as currently placed, are aimed at the Post Office Café and it might be a good idea to point them in some other direction.

On a serious note..Don reports District Governor Steve Silverman underwent double by-pass surgery and is doing well.
