NO VISITING ROTARIANS/GUESTS
ANNIVERSARY--
Congratulations to Judy and Jon Pratt who celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary on the 8th of October...on a Mediterranean cruise. (And you thought the 15th was crystal.)
ANNOUNCEMENTS--
Ken Colaluca announced that the club will host an Election Day breakfast. Then it gets fuzzy...
It looks like the breakfast will be held on either the second Tuesday of November, or, the 2nd. It will be at the St. Luke's kitchen, per usual...most likely. The time? Early. There will be tickets to sell, although for how much...we can't yet say. How many will each Rotarian need to sell? Stay tuned. One certainty...phew...for $25 you can advertise your business on a placemat. More next week...
Mike Balsamo gave a report on the Rotary Visioning session, held at the East Greenwich Police Community Room with President Ed Neff and guest host Terri Fitch. It was an excellent meeting, which focused on the question of 'Where will our club be in five years?' Some of the answers/projections include:
1) 75 members, active one and all;
2) The Rotary Wheel stamp will be everywhere throughout town, advertising the Rotary Club of East Greenwich;
3) We will be seen as THE premier community service organization in town;
4) Our Wine Tasting event will become the 'Taste of East Greenwich,' doubling its recent success in attendance and funds raised;
5) Rotaract will be an important focus of the club, as we seek to add younger members into the the ranks of Rotary International.
HAPPY BUCKS
-Vin Meola gave a confused buck regarding the Ken's Election Day breakfast announcement.
-Betsy DePrimo gave a thanks buck to Erica Balsamo, for Wild Harvest's catering effort at the Club Visioning meeting.
-Judy gave a happy vacation buck for her terrific anniversary cruise with Jon.
-George Popella gave a happy sailing buck. His memorable birthday gift from Deb was an amazing day on the bay aboard the famed 12-meter 'Columbia.'
-Richard Waterman gave a happy recovery buck for Gill Thorpe, who's doing well and is on the mend post knee surgery. (And Gill, in absentia, is also happy to be able to pass on the grueling Election Day coffee duty to Richard!)
-George Cooper gave a happy October 5th birthday buck for three year old son, Griffin.
-Soozie Sundlun gave a 'best Pats game ever' buck for a recent trip to Gillette Stadium.
PROGRAM/SPEAKER
Captain Dave Caldwell, USMC, 2010 Citrus Chairman.
The 20th Anniversary Citrus Drive is officially under way, under the leadership of our own Captain Dave Caldwell.
Captain Dave's objective: Sell Citrus. Dave's goal: exceed last year's excellent results. Dave's new weapon: the EG Rotary Online Store for ordering product. Dave's other weapon: massive carpet bombing...err...mailing, carpet mailing.
Rotarians Balsamo and Boynton have been promoted to the rank of major, to assist in the 2010 campaign. Congratulations Mike and Jane, who...I believe...now actually outrank Dave. (Hmmm...) Kudos to Dave, who would apparently rather be out in the field of action, organizing his troops' efforts.
December 11th will be Citrus pick-up day. Two nights of citrus phone-a-thon duty will be in our future.
All Rotarians will be drafted into Citrus Duty--no exceptions or exemptions! All are commanded to SELL CITRUS! NOW!!! (And CD's and soy candles...)
Finally, upon a brief Q and A session a wily Rotarian attempted to throw the gruff Marine off his game by asking what his favorite scented candle might be. Captain Dave didn't flinch. His answer: until there's a gunpowder candle, scented fir. Nice work, Captain.
(Now get to work everyone! Dismissed!)
