Our last meeting of the year ended with a robust rendition of Auld Lang Syne, of which we knew about half the words. Everyone sang with gusto and between the group we managed to come up with most of the words, although not always in correct order. It was very touching. A loose translation of Auld Lang Syne is "times gone by".
President Bob brought us news from Jim Essex that Janet is recovering from a broken arm, suffered in a fall during the slippery holidays. She is doing well.
We were joined by fourteen of our 18 scholarship recipients, who received checks, handed out by Scholarship Committee representative John Wolcott.
President Robert the Red Nosed Rotarian was fined a small amount for sleeping in Tuesday morning after making extensive arrangements for a "Fireside Chat" Those present gave him a call, and he managed to straggle in for the festivities, looking quite dapper for someone on vacation who had been planning to sleep in. The Fireside Chat gave Trevor Cobain his last chance to change his mind. However he decided to give us a chance and will become a full fledged member of the club in the near future.
We have about 25 cases of citrus left. We are attempting to sell them, but if no takers will make another donation to the RI Community Food Bank or another worthy organization.
Chuck Sauer gave an update on Santa's visit to our holiday family. Jane and Jenny, Chuck and Santa arrived at the house on Christmas Eve, and had a great time watching the children with their presents. It made a happy holiday out of a season that hadn't been looking all that good for the family.
John Wolcott went to the barber this week and got his yearly haircut. He looks very Rotarish.
