Rotary Centenary at Redland Museum

Rotary in Australia turns 100 this year and the clubs of Quandamooka Country will host a month-long exhibition at the Redland Museum.

The exhibition will feature displays of local historical projects including The Rocks at Tingalpa Creek, the Santas displayed at Wynnum, Manly and Capalaba, jarjums yarnin' literacy project at Dunwich, and the Lodge at Redlands Hospital.

The service clubs will be on show at the museum from May 17 to June 27.

International Projects relating to water, health, education, and peace will also be highlighted. Of particular interest is Rotary's project in the eradication of polio.

Rotary International has reduced the number of cases from approximately 360,000 in 126 countries to less than 100 in 2 countries in the last 40 years.

Several local Rotarians involved in immunisation campaigns overseas will have their stories, caps and vests exhibited.

Rotarians will also give talks on June 10, 17 and 24 at 10am covering topics such as the eradication of polio, and international and local projects.

The exhibition and talks are open to the public.

All current and past Rotarians and Redland Museum members are invited to the exhibition private opening by Mayor Karen Williams and Rotary District Governor, Patrice Robinson, on Sunday May 30 at 11.30am.
