On Friday 28 September, the people of Sulawesi looked on in horror as giant waves crashed onto their shores. First the island was hit by a 7.5 magnitude earthquake. Then a tsunami tore through the region, flattening everything in its path and turning thousands of homes to rubble.

Families have been left devastated as they struggle with the catastrophic aftermath. Thousands are still searching for lost family members, whilst also enduring landslides and power charges.

Working with  our incredible local Rotary partners we are speaking to village leaders to understand what families need. We have created a package of aid tailored for those families, made up of a large sturdy tent with space for a whole family to be together, sleep and feel safe, a water filter to make sure they have safe drinking water, two water carriers so clean water can be kept clean and two mosquito nets to give protection from insect-borne diseases.

Thanks from ShelterBox to the Rotary Club of Dunedin Central for your support – you’re helping families in desperate need.
