Rotary played an important part in Andrew’s life over the past 31 years and, without any doubt, Andrew was an incredibly important part of Rotary over those same years.

He joined the Rotary Club of Dunedin Central on March 1, 1987 and his passion for Rotary, his Rotary Club and the ideals of Rotary in helping and supporting others in the local and global community was endless.
Andrew gave generously of his time and energy to Rotary.  He became Club President in 1995/96 and undertook many different roles on the Club Board for over 20 years.  Andrew was always there to inspire, encourage and support.  He was that wise person who knew the answers, and his problem-solving skills were outstanding.

On July 1, 2001 Andrew became District Governor for Rotary District 9980. With Rosemary at his side, they undertook this role with a passion and enthusiasm which rubbed off on everyone they met. Andrew described the year as “Quite a ride – a year I will remember forever”.   As the DG, Andrew visited Clubs, and saw Rotary Projects across the District.  He and Rosemary attended functions, including an evening when Andrew, dressed in full Scottish attire, addressed the haggis.  They formed many friendships, including a special bond with the other five DGs and their partners across New Zealand.

After finishing as DG, Andrew took on the role of District Training Chair, running very enjoyable training events.  In recent times he was a member of the District Foundation Committee, always offering wise and experienced advice.

Andrew was awarded a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow with three sapphire pins – a very fitting honour for a man whose life was one of giving, of generosity and caring for others.

The respect that every Rotarian in Dunedin Central Rotary Club, Rotary District 9980 and across NZ and other parts of the world has for Andrew Meek is at the highest level. Rotary is a better place because of Andrew, but more importantly, because of him the world is a better place.

Fly free, Andrew.
