The Marblehead Rotary Club is proud to introduce its six 2016 scholarship recipients:

Justyn N. is heading to George Washington University where she will pursue her passion for political science. During her career at Marblehead High School, Justyn showed an early interest for politics by being both the class president and member of the student government for all of her four years. Overcoming some challenges with dyslexia, she excelled in English and won the Excellence in English award in 2016.

Joshua O. will be attending University of Massachusetts at Amherst in the Fall. He plans to study engineering. Because Joshua has been touched by Parkinson’s Disease through a family member, he wants to focus his studies on chemical engineering and hopes to make a contribution in medical research and drug delivery methods. He is proud of his outside involvements including being a four-year veteran of the Marblehead High School soccer team. Joshua is also involved in the community as a certified life guard and a volunteer mentor, helping elementary school children with various intellectual challenges.

Louisa G. will be going to Colgate University in September. Gould believes in a rounded education and plans a liberal arts curriculum at Colgate. An honors student at Marblehead High School, Gould is most proud of her performing arts and community service leadership roles. She is a member of both Luminescence and Serendipity, two a cappella groups. Louisa has also been in many theater productions, including Guys and Dolls, Man of La Mancha, My Fair Lady, Marat/Sade, and Amadeus.

Adam L. will enroll at Wesleyan University this fall. An excellent student achieving High Honor Roll every semester at Marblehead High School, He was also an important part of the cross country team throughout his high school career. A warm and thoughtful person, Adam was a member of Best Buddies, being a mentor to a child with developmental disabilities and participated as a volunteer with several Special Olympic teams. At Wesleyan, He plans to study math and biology with the hopes this will lead to an advanced degree and a career in medical research.

The second annual recipient of the Donald Humphreys Memorial Rotary Scholarship, Ben T., will be heading to Loyola University to pursue his interest in liberal arts with a focus on music and performance. He has been performing musically, not only at Marblehead High School, but at events throughout the town. Performing at events such as, Marblehead Festival of Arts, Marblehead’s Got Talent competition and as a members of the Grizzly Feakin Man Singers - an A Cappella group and as a bass player with the Addy & Julia Band. Taliesinhas put himself out in public eye. One of the most memorable and exhilarating experiences of his young life, Donald had the opportunity to sing with a group at Governor Baker’s Inauguration Ball in front of tens of thousands of people.

The Marblehead Rotary Club awarded this year's four year Barbara and Randy Goodwin Scholarship to John G.. He will matriculate at Worcester Polytechnic Institute this September. John has always been fascinated with building things. Starting with Legos, K’Nex and wooden blocks as a child and, during the summers, working for a small manufacturing company forming tubes and manifolds. He knew a career in mechanical engineering was the place for him to be.

The Marblehead Rotary Club is pleased to award these scholarships to an impressive group of students with solid academic records and also demonstrate care and commitment to helping people throughout their community.

Depending on available resources, the Marblehead Rotary Club gives out four to five one-year, scholarships and one four-year Barbara and Randy Goodwin Memorial Scholarship each spring. Recipients are selected based on their financial need, academic achievements, demonstrated community service and excellence in sports or the arts. All recipients are either Marblehead residents or are in the Marblehead school system.
