District Conference Veterans Memorial Brunch: Honoring Those Who Have Served

Francisco Urena, Secretary of the Department of Veterans Services and Jen DeLuca from Fisher House will be our Guest Speakers at the District Conference Veterans Memorial Brunch.

Francisco Urena Secretary of the Department of Veterans’ Services will open our Veterans Memorial Brunch on Sunday May 15th at the Harvard Club. Secretary Ureña’s commitment to government service began the day after graduating high school when he enlisted in the United States Marines Corps. In the span of eight years of honorable service, his duties included Diplomatic Security with the Department of State at two American Embassies: American Embassy Damascus, Syria and American Embassy Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. He is a Purple Heart recipient from injuries sustained during Operation Iraqi Freedom campaign. In 2008, Ureña was honored with “Veterans’ Services Officer of the Year,” awarded by former Veterans’ Services Secretary, Thomas G. Kelley.

Secretary Ureña is committed to helping veterans live with dignity, honor, and independence; and ensures that the department and its initiatives focus on those goals.

Jen DeLuca from Fisher House will be our guest speaker. There are currently 65 Fisher Houses located around the country and in the United Kingdom. The mission of the Fisher House is to ease the burden of our Veterans and their families during difficult times; to serve those who have served. Fisher House Boston’s mission is to be responsive to the needs of their guests and go above and beyond what the Veterans Administration can provide. They strive to meet the basic comfort needs of their guests, during some of the most difficult times in their guest lives, as well as, enhance the healing and supportive environment of the house. Fisher House Boston was the 46th house to be built and dedicated. Boston is the 15th house to be on a VA Medical Center campus.
