What's New with the District Conference 2016
The Early Bird Registration has been extended until further notice at the District Governor’s request. This is the best price that will be offered for this conference.

Starting with the Conference Mystery Dine Around (a la carte) on Friday night, we’ll be having fun and friendship on the roof of Fisher College, followed by dinner at four star restaurants with folks you may not know but would love to meet! A separate package is available on the registration page to allow you to register for this only, if that is your wish. Transportation will be provided from Fisher College to the restaurants and back. Don’t want to mingle? Don’t go for this one!

On Saturday there will be a service project open to all District Rotarians. While the location is yet to be determined, the event is packing meals for End Hunger New England. We hope to pack 10,000 - 30,000 meals to be distributed here in our District by an organization that truly embodies “Service Above Self”, making every effort to End Hunger Now! The service project is followed by a joint luncheon in Harvard Hall at the Harvard Club uptown. Nestled on Massachusetts Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue, this historic venue will be the site not only for the Conference but also for the District Assembly. Separate District Assembly registration opens on March 1st. It is its own event, so you can register for it alone, or include it in your District Conference Registration.

Featured at both the Joint Luncheon and dinner is Dan Clark: Experience the Dynamic Power and Passion of this Spectacular Entertainer". You can go to www.thesingingtrooper.com if you need more info. Register for the Conference here!

The Importance of Leap Year

Governor Dave has often mentioned the importance of an extra day during this Rotary year to accomplish more of what we are called to do. Throughout the year, as we Do Good in the World, we impact our communities, near and far in ways that positively affect others. Having this extra day is a great Gift to the World. Whether you choose to reach out to someone in need, donate to The Rotary Foundation, plan your next service project or take a day off and recharge. Why would that be a positive decision? Perhaps, it will build your energy so you can tackle the next commitment or maybe discover something that needs to be addressed that can only be recognized when you stop and smell the flowers. So, decide for yourself, but make sure that the day is spent in a way that helps you move closer to your goals, personal, business or service to others.

"A great accomplishment shouldn't be the end of the road, just the starting point for the next leap forward."
Harvey Mackay
2016 RYLA Looking for Clubs to Recruit Participants
Did you miss the RYLA Kickoff for 2016?? Well... you didn't.

We didn't have one because we are trying a new way of doing things. All of the clubs in the district have been divided and assigned to a Rotarian contact person. This person will contact the president of the club and serve as the representative. They will provide information, forms, updates and communications to the club and its RYLA representative from the club. A list of clubs and Rotarian contacts will be available on the district website soon. Check in with your Club President to see if they have been contacted and who is the Rotarian RYLA contact.

RYLA 2016 is scheduled for June 3-5, 2016 at Camp Rotary in Boxford. The event starts on Friday at 3 pm and runs until Sunday at 4 pm. All meals, housing and events are covered by the $150 registration fee. Student applications are available on the district website along with the Rules of Conduct. Each club is allowed to sponsor up to 5 student(and we will cut off registrations after the first 80 completed student applications are received. (80 is the maximum for the facility) Applications are due to your club by April 15 and must be sent, along with the check and a complete application to Tracy Arabian (address on the application). Instructions are on the student application and assistance is available through the Rotarian contact assigned to your club.

RYLA is an excellent program for High School Sophomores and Juniors. Most past RYLArians will tell you that it is a life-changing event that helps them with High School, College and beyond. For further information, email Jim Babbin.
Global Scholar Named for 2016-17
District 7930 has awarded its 2016-2017 Global Grant Scholarship to Kristin Kelleher of Newburyport, MA. The scholarship is worth $30,000. Ms. Kelleher who is sponsored by the Ipswich Rotary Club will be attending Kings College London beginning in September 2016. Ms. Kelleher currently works as a Legislative Aid for Representative Jay Kaufman.

Ms. Kelleher will enroll in the Master's Program, Environment, Politics, and Globalization. This program fits very nicely with Rotary International’s area of focus; Economic and Community Development. While attending Kings College London, Ms. Kelleher will also design and implement a “Service Project” which will have a positive and sustainable effect on the local community. Ms. Kelleher’s service project will show the correlation between low-income individuals, health, environmental issues and success in obtaining a job that provides a sustainable wage.

This year we had five (including Ms. Kelleher) very strong candidates. All of which, we believe, will affect a positive change in our world. All candidates were required to complete the Global Grant application, provide a resume, provide two letters of reference, college transcripts, admission to a Masters or Doctorate program and a concept for a service project within the RI six areas of focus. Lastly, a candidate needs to have a strong knowledge of Rotary and how Rotary could assist them in their future endeavors.

An interview committee was formed which included the incoming District Governor (2016-2017) Sheryl Meehan, current Foundation Chair Ingrid Brown, current Outgoing Global Grant Scholarship Chair David Hart, District Governor-Nominee David Gardner, and Lexington Rotarian Doug Holmes.

All candidates were interviewed on Saturday March 20, 2016 and the committee made its decision on the same day. District 7930 and the interview committee was proud of the caliber of candidates this year and wants to offer congratulations to our winner Kristen Kelleher. Ms. Kelleher is and will continue to be a champion of the Rotary motto “Service Above Self”.
