Get ready for 2017 Polar Plunge!
Come join the Party!

  • When: February 4, 2017  11:00 AM
  • Where: Long Beach Gloucester
This is our chance to help the children of the world by helping to fund  polio eradication efforts.   In 1988 there were 350,000 new cases of Polio worldwide. Through October 2016 there have only been 27 new cases.  The goal of Rotary and its partners is to completely eradicate the polio virus.  Without the complete eradication the virus could infect 100,000 within 10 years.

The members of the 47 clubs in our District have come together over the last several years for our annual Polar Plunge event at Long Beach.   These members and supporters have made a significant statement of caring for the children of the world.

Links to our fundraising page will shortly be forwarded to the President of your club and on the District 7930 website.

Come support a great fun event!

Reading Rotary Readers Project

In December the Reading Rotary Club visited kindergarten classes to distribute reading books and book bags to every kindergarten student in the Reading Public Schools. Reading Rotary picked this project to advance one of Rotary six areas of focus: basic education and literacy. Reading Rotary looks for projects to help those who are in need, provide support to young people to reach new heights and support organizations who are also doing great work in supporting others.

The Rotary Reader Project was adapted from Mary Kate Kelley’s Girl Scout Gold Award literacy bag project; Mary Kate is a Past President of the Reading Memorial High School Interact Club and one of its Charter Members. This project involved the RMHS Interact as Interact Members helped assemble the bags for distribution. Each drawstring book bag contained two reading books and information about Rotary.

Rockport Presents Grace Center with Placesettings
Charitable Gift Will Reduce Cost and Waste for Free Meals for Locals in Crisis.

Today members of the Rockport Rotary Club delivered a truckload of new 100 commercial-quality place settings to the Grace Center. The plates, bowls, mugs, cups, and silverware will be used for the Grace Center’s program of free breakfast and lunch for area residents in need, which currently feeds an average of 70 people a day.

Presenting the gift were Rockport Rotarians Mary Ciaraldi, Publicity Chair and realtor at J. Barrett & Company; Anne Lewis, retired, who heads the group’s grants committee; Rev. Derek van Gulden, pastor of the Rockport Congregational Church; Jack Reed, President of the Rockport Rotary Club; Bob Gillis, EVP of Cape Ann Savings Bank; and Elise Sinagra, Director of Sales, Marketing & Community Integration at Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (not pictured).

Accepting the gift were Grace Center Executive Director Rev. Thomas Bentley and co-founder Rev. Anne Deneen. “Since we started in 2011, the Grace Center has relied on expensive paper products, but this commercial-quality bamboo melamine set will dramatically reduce costs and trash,” explained Rev. Bentley. “We are so grateful to the Rockport Rotary and Rotary District 7930 for this generous gift and for making the Grace Center part of their homelessness and hunger initiative.”

“The Rockport Rotary raises money to support local initiatives that are sustainable, and this is something that meets a great need,” explained Anne Lewis, who oversees the groups charitable giving. “The Rockport Rotary raised $2,000 and our district matched our gift.”

Socks For Veterans

Members of the Burlington Rotary's Interact Club gathered to present over 1800 pairs of white athletic socks to US military veterans.

The socks were collected by members of the Burlington High School Interact Club who placed collection boxes around town and Burlington Rotary Club members. Particular thanks go to to Burlington Rotary member Lisa Healey who collected an amazing 1549 pairs of socks through requests to friends, coworkers and acquaintances. Many of the students pictured above are holding pairs of socks to be turned over to veterans.

Three US military veterans attended the meeting. They accepted and took the socks to where they will be given to other veterans who need them.

Thank You to Ipswich & Gloucester Rotary
During each holiday season, SeniorCare’s Meals on Wheels program gives a small gift to each of our homebound elders who receive daily Meals on Wheels lunches. These gifts are delivered with their meal around the middle of December.

SeniorCare would like to thank the Ipswich Rotary Club and the Gloucester Rotary Club for assisting with the cost of these gifts in each of their communities.  Rotary’s generosity is greatly appreciated!

Meals on Wheels is a nationwide program that provides a nutritious meal to homebound elders daily. SeniorCare provides these meals to more than 1,500 seniors throughout the North Shore area. Approximately 100 seniors in Ipswich receive a daily lunch. Many times, the delivery driver is the only contact during the day for these seniors.

About SeniorCare
SeniorCare Inc. serves nine communities on Boston’s North Shore, serving more than 27,000 residents aged 60 and over.  We provide services to adults with disabilities and elders in Beverly, Essex, Ipswich, Gloucester, Hamilton, Manchester by the Sea, Rockport, Topsfield and Wenham. Established in 1972, SeniorCare’s volunteers and staff work to fulfill its mission as a consumer-centered organization which provides and coordinates services to elders and others. This allows them to live independently at home or in a setting of their choice, while remaining part of their community.

Gloucester Interact Annual Children's Party
The Gloucester High School Interact held their annual Holiday Party for the children of Gloucester this past weekend at Pathways for Children. Dozens of families with almost 200 children attended the party, where they made arts & crafts, played games, decorated cookies, listened to holiday story-telling, enjoyed a delicious lunch and met with Santa.

This annual event is planned and executed completely by the Gloucester High School Interact Club members.
Ipswich Rotary Collects for the Homeless
In November, Ipswich Rotary completed a very successful “Sock Drive for the Homeless”, part of the club’s ongoing Homelessness and Hunger Initiative. Rev. Brian Gearin of Starlight Ministries in Boston joined the club at a breakfast meeting to describe the need and to help the Rotarians understand how good people can suddenly find themselves homeless.

Following the meeting, the club packed Rev. Gearin’s car chock full of socks collected during the drive. Yes, we left a bit of room in the car for Rev. Gearin.
