The first ever virtual District 7040 Rotary Foundation Walk was held May 9, 2020. It was a cold, windy and snowy day for sure; however, we Rotarians provided service above self to support the Rotary Foundation. Fifty-six walkers representing seven clubs participated: Three from the US - Rotary Clubs of Canton, Potsdam and Massena. Three from Ontario, Canada - Cornwall Sunrise, Kingston-Frontenac,  1000 Islands-Brockville and one from Quebec – Old Montreal. The total amount raised was $10,728.31(US).

Cornwall Sunrise raised the highest amount and will maintain the Walking Stick award. The Canton club came in second, with Massena third rounding up the top three. The Rotary Club of Old Montreal contributed $2,130.00 (US) from a cancelled gala dinner, due to CoVid19, held on May 9th to benefit the Rotary Foundation. Thank you to all the Rotarians in the district for your support of the annual Rotary Foundation Walk that supports so much of what we do both at the community club level and around the world. Please see the District and various club sites for the posting of their walk.

I’d like to thank the Canton Club for its enthusiasm and interest to host this year’s foundation walk. It is with regret that we were not able to walk with other Rotarians to share what made and what continues to make Canton the place our club calls home. Take time to view the pictures taken along our path that would have featured this year’s foundation walk. We began at the beautiful St. Lawrence University campus, walked on through the historic district including the home where Fredrick Remington was born, and continued along the Grass River park where Rushton Canoes began.  A special thank you goes out to both Mike Crowe and Kathy Mullaney for their wealth of knowledge to feature the highlights of Canton.

Now on to next year. The Rotary Clubs of 1000 Islands-Brockville have expressed interest in hosting the District 7040 Foundation walk in 2021. We look forward to providing you with more upcoming information as it becomes available.
