Enhance your Global Grant  : Writing a Global Grant for The Rotary Foundation takes a lot of effort. Whether you are writing your first grant or have completed dozens, it is important to have it reviewed in order to improve the chances of getting it approved by the Foundation. WASRAG has experts in a variety of fields in all parts of the planet, they will review your Global Grant application and make recommendations on how it can be approved. There is no cost to have your application reviewed. In fact, if you send it to us at info@WASRAG.org and incorporate our suggestions into your final submission, WASRAG will donate $500 to your project, when it is approved by The Rotary Foundation.  If addition, if your project is a water, sanitation and hygiene project for a school (WASH in Schools - WinS), then through the generosity of the Rotary Club of Box Hill Central. located in Australia and the NGO "We Can't Wait" they will contribute $500 more to your project. WASRAG is your Rotary partner in water and sanitation. The success of your project is a collective success for us all.  WASRAG looks forward to working with you.

Become a Water Warrior  - Take a picture or a video, offering a glass of water, in one of the three Water Warrior Poses and then make a donation to The WASRAG Fund. The picture can be of you, with someone else, or even your whole Rotary club. Have fun with the idea and don't forget to post to Social Media. Learn more about this campaign by going to Water Warrior . Donations are tax-deductible in Canada and the USA, and support WASRAG's clean water and sanitation projects.

Engineering for CHANGE -  "How to Achieve Clean Water and Sanitation Access for Everyone", is the opening heading in the March issue of the Engineering for Change Newsletter.  Their website www.engineeringforchange.org has a wealth of information on water, sanitation, and health topics. An example under the Water section is an article "The Secret to Sustainable WASH Technology: Five Questions for Sean Furey"

Mike Webb elected WASRAG Chair :  Build on the foundations of WASRAG laid by Ron Denham, Bill Boyd, and others to ensure continued support for projects and education in the Water and Sanitation area of focus improving the live of those in need," is the goal of Mike Webb, as the new Chair of the WASRAG Board. Mike has been a Rotarian since 1976 and has served in many roles at the club, district and international level.   To learn more about Mike read his biography on the WASRAG Stories page.

B.R.E.W. Supports WASRAG : A very significant event during this year's Rotary Convention in Toronto, Canada, was a reception at the George Brown Culinary College hosted by the Rotary Fellowship Group - Beers Rotarians Enjoy Worldwide (B.R.E.W.).  A good time was had by all, and a very generous donation of $3,500 was made by B.R.E.W. to WASRAG.  The funds being donated will serve to fund Rotary club projects that have been technically reviewed by WASRAG.  BREW has agreed to donate 25% of its revenue to WASRAG, some $6000 over the past two years. To learn more about the B.R.E.W. Fellowship (and maybe join!) go to https://www.rotarybrew.org/

WASH Innovation Challenge : Hand Washing + Soap = Saved Lives. If it's simple in theory, why is it so hard to practice? The UNICEF Regional Office for South Asia has partnered with the NGO development organization BRAC has initiated a competition with $5,000 in prize money. The deadline to apply is September 10, 2018. They are looking for innovative solutions from the eight countries in South Asia that can be implemented at scale. To learn more visit https://www.washinnovation.org/

Making Some Progress with Handwashing : The USAID newsletter Water Currents, recently summarized the results of The State of Handwashing in 2017, published by the Global Handwashing Partnership. Research indicates that deaths due to unsafe water, sanitation, and hygiene have decreased by 25 percent. However, researchers estimate that inadequate hand hygiene still results in nearly 300,000 deaths annually, with the majority of deaths occurring among children younger than five years old.

Goal 6 - Clean Water and Sanitation : The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 is to "Ensure access to water and sanitation for all." They have developed a website to track the progress in obtaining their goal.  The interactive website is an excellent resource on the many aspects of providing clean water and sanitation to the world. Related to the topic of access to water, NASA recently released a study indicating that "Water Shortages to be Key Environmental Challenge of the Century",  particularly in India, Middle East, Australia, and California.

Our Members Asked?  - WASRAG is extremely fortunate to count many dedicated and knowledgeable Rotarians on its team. Which is good - as our membership has lots of questions about the best technology to use on projects, how best to assess local needs, and best practices for sustainable projects.  We would like to start a new feature in the newsletter, where you ask the questions and we get answers from our experts and the readers. We will provide the input in a future newsletter. Send your email to info@wasrag.org and indicate QUESTION in the title

The Water & Sanitation Rotarian Action Group is a group of Rotarians whose purpose is to support Rotary clubs to effectively plan, finance, implement, monitor and evaluate water, sanitation, and hygiene programs, where they are most needed in a collaborative, cost-effective, timely, and sustainable manner, true to the principles of Rotary International. Wasrag operates in accordance with Rotary International policy but is not an agency of, or controlled by, Rotary International.

The Water and Sanitation Rotarian Action Group (Wasrag) is pleased to consider partnerships with any corporate supporter. Due to the unique attributes of water sources and water provision, acceptance of corporate support does not imply an endorsement of any particular water technology. Rotarians, Rotary clubs, and Rotary partners must evaluate any technology to determine if it is the best solution for the conditions where the program will be implemented. Wasrag can provide guidance about where different technologies work best, but Rotarians and Rotary clubs must make the final decision about how to implement their programs.
