At the Rotary Zone 24-32 Institute , held Oct 16-22 in Hartford Connecticut, our Zone 24East Public Image Coordinator, Carrie Jones,  presented the 2017 Zone Public Image Award, for the best promotion of Rotary’s Public Image, to District 7070's very own Rotary Club of Scarborough. Past District Governor Jim Loutit received this prestigious award and presented it on October 31 to the club. Well deserved. Here is the rest of the story .......

This award was one of only three handed out in Zone 24 -32.  Nominations were submitted by Rotary Clubs and Rotary Districts from all over Zone 24 -32 (all of Canada and northeastern USA) to the Rotary Zone Public Image Coordinator Carrie Jone by Sept 15, 2017 deadline. The nominees had to describe how their District and/or Club promoted the “Rotary Story”,  through the use of all aspects of promotion, including traditional media (newspapers, radio, TV), social media (website, Facebook, Twitter etc), community events, or any other method.

Congratulations to Gerard Baribeau, Chris Musselman , and Heather Lennie of the Rotary Club of Scarborough for their work in promoting Rotary's Public Image

Here is the rest of the story from Gerard and Chris, which shows how the Rotary Club of Scarborough promotes the "Rotary Story":

"In addition to our regular P R activities, such as newspaper advertising and distributing flyers and posters for our community events, the Rotary Club of Scarborough is concentrating on new ways of getting our message to the public.

First, we increased our posts on Facebook, then created a LinkedIn campaign, and started to publicize the Free Reading Program as often as we could. The Free Reading Program was created by our member John Lennie, and has been demonstrated to many Clubs internationally by his daughter Heather. At the start, Heather was a Rotaractor, but she has now become a full-time Rotarian in our Club. Through Heather’s efforts, the Free Reading Program now has over 100,000 subscribers through 65 Clubs in Canada, the USA, and other countries. Every time someone accesses this program, they go to a Rotary Club website, and learn more about Rotary!

During our main community event, Rotary Ribfest, we distribute cards to the thousands of people who attend, including the Free Reading Program and our other Community and International projects. We were founding members of the Scarborough Community Renewal Organization, and participate in everything from Canada Day Citizenship Ceremonies to Parades and Breakfasts for Habitat for Humanity. Many of our activities include the other Scarborough area Rotary Clubs, plus the 2 Interact Clubs we support.

We can measure the results of the Free Reading Program by tracking on our website. If you’d like to view it, please go to http;//freereadingprogram.com/login?c=8

But the main way we can measure the success of P R is through increased inquiries, and the many new members of our Rotary Club. We are very pleased to be given the Zone Public Image Award, and will continue to use our best efforts to promote Rotary every day."

Be sure to check out the Rotary Club of Scarborough's website and Facebook Page and LinkedIn page.  And their 3 brochures ( one on the Rotary Club of Scarborough; another on Scarborough Rotary (the collective Rotary Clubs in Scarborough); and the third on Scarborough Community Renewal Organization - the result of the Scarborough Community Renewal Campaign)  really tell Rotary's Story. Congratulations.
