We have lost Rotarians and friends of Rotary, in Rotary District 7070, who have helped to shape our Rotary world. This new "In Memoriam" section of the District 7070 newsletter was created to remember our Rotarians and so much more. BILL MACKAY, SR. – William R MacKay, B. Sc. (Agr.) (OAC 1951 Guelph Aggie) B. Ed, M. Ed (U of Toronto) . William MacKay Sr died peacefully in Bridge Street Retirement Residence of Thursday, November 22nd, 2018 after a lengthy illness. He was 88 years old. He was the first of 4 boys of Earle & Laura MacKay and grew up near Carrying Place where he met and married Barbara Roblin. A local high school principal (BCI&VS, Centennial, Moira) for much of his career, he remains known to many Bellevillians as ‘Mr. MacKay’. A long-time Rotarian, he was our Rotary District 7070 Governor in 1977-78, Past President of the Belleville Rotary Club and a multiple Paul Harris Fellow. Survived by Barbara, the love of his life and wife of 66 years, and brothers James (late Wilma) of Owen Sound and Harry (Margaret) of Ottawa. Predeceased by his brother Donald. Dad to Bill and daughter in law Cory of Foxboro, Grandpa to Taylor & Ryan. Peggy of Kingston, David of Toronto & Valerie and son in law Donald of Guelph, Grandpa to Laura. His family is grateful for the attentive care that was provided and received. Arrangements entrusted to the BURKE FUNERAL HOME, 150 Church St., Belleville (613-968-6968). Visitation at the church prior to the service from 9:30 – 11:00 am. Memorial Service was held at Eastminster United Church on Tuesday, November 27th, 2018 at 11 am. Reception to follow. It is with deep sorrow that we share the news of the death of Past District Governor William "Bill" MacKay Sr., a member of the Rotary Club of Belleville and father of Past District Governor Bill MacKay Jr. A memorial service for PDG Bill was held on Tuesday, November 27th, 2018 at Eastminster United Church with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. In memory of Bill, donations to the Rotary Foundation, Eastminster United Church or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. William "Bill" MacKay Sr. served as District 7070 Governor in the 1977-78 Rotary Year. His passing brings much sadness to the family but comfort and incredible gratitude for a life well lived in the service of others. He has done much for so many. Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with all of the family at this very sad and difficult time.
