My Fellow Rotarians:

In September we held our Foundation Walk, which was once again a great success. Thank you to the Whitby Clubs for doing such an admirable job organizing, keeping us all hydrated, and the endless smiles along the route. Personally, I’m thinking a Foundation Paddle might be a neat idea for future….? ;-)

October in Rotary is officially Economic and Community Development Month. This speaks to what most every Club works on at some point throughout the year, either locally or abroad. And with the natural disasters that have swept through many regions in September, we’re reminded of the long-term benefits of our projects. I’ve been heartened by the generosity of Clubs in assisting through ShelterBox or geographic-specific designated funds. Last week, Club Presidents ratified a decision to make a special $10,000 donation to ShelterBox from our District reserve funds........

October 24th is World Polio Day. I hope your Club is doing something, whether on your own or joining with others. I’ll try and visit as many as I can – let Bob Wallace know and he can add them to the District Calendar on the website.

As our District Conference draws closer, we really need Rotarians to register. Please – do it now. The usual last-minute signups cause havoc with plans (and hotel rooms are getting tight). We have some surprises in store, and it’s a fantastic opportunity to interact with our 11 inbound Youth Exchange Students.

Highway for Heroes Tribute has launched a 2:1 offer strictly D7070 Rotarians and friends, part of our ongoing response to Ian Riseley’s tree challenge. (Hear more from Mark Cullen at our district conference.) We’ve already funded a HOHT tree along the Highway for Heroes for every club, and a further 2,200 trees for a Family Planting Day April 22nd, 2018. Does you Club have other tree projects? Contact Kevin Power so he can add to our tally as we aim to reach 30,000!

As of this writing, I have made it to just over a third of the Clubs, and many club events. Thanks to all for such great hospitality!

Yours In Rotary,

Neil
