In his May 2018 Newsletter, our District Governor Neil Phillips talks about Youth Services Month, the need to re-register for the June 9 Rotary Leadership Institute, the success of District 7070's Tree Planting on Earth Day , the need for volunteers at the Rotary International Convention in June, and he hopes to see us all at many of these events   - a busy May and June in District 7070.

Here is Neil's May letter .....

 My Fellow Rotarians:

May in Rotary is officially Youth Service Month. And in this respect, our district is astoundingly active. With eight Rotaract Clubs, close to 30 Interact Clubs, Earlyact, Youth Exchange, various Club Youth Day events, RYLA, scholarship programs and so much more – we are definitely People of Action. This year, there’s added ways to get involved through our hosting of the Interact and Rotaract Pre-Conventions.

April was a very busy month; thank you to the hundreds who showed up at the very sunny Earth Day Tree Planting and also the slightly wet & chilly AIDS Community Health Poker Walks (in both Belleville & Toronto). From the many smiles I saw, everyone had fun while supporting worthy initiatives – and from a public relations perspective, we managed coverage in both print and television media. I don’t have final numbers on both, but believe we’ve raised over $100,000 between the two initiatives. How’s that for making a difference. Amazing! (And read this super-positive update.)

Our last RLI session of the Rotary year was cancelled due to that very rude ice storm. It’s rescheduled to June 9. We need you to register again if you’re planning on joining this.

As our convention gets closer, I’ll be sending out regular "Convention Minute” updates, advising everyone answers to questions that come in, details re where the HOC needs help, and other ways you can serve. As HOC Co-Chair Michele Guy would say…only 54 sleeps until the fun starts. Do you know what you’ll be doing?

May includes a lot of Club fundraisers and events – looking forward to seeing many of you!

Yours In Rotary,

Neil
