In his February 2018 Newsletter, our District Governor Neil Phillips talks about the importance of February being Peace and Conflict Resolution Month, and he asks us how we will celebrate Rotary's 113th birthday. He encourages all of us to meet our Rotary Foundation goals for this Rotary Year and to volunteer our services at the Rotary International Convention in June. Here is Neil's letter .....

My Fellow Rotarians:

February in Rotary is officially Peace & Conflict Prevention/Resolution Month. I’ll be headed to the Presidential Peacebuilding Conference in Vancouver. It’s also Rotary’s 113th birthday on February 23rd. Is your Club doing anything to celebrate?

As we enter the back-half of the Rotary year, it’s important to see where your Club is on major goals. Have your donations to The Rotary Foundation met Club objectives? Have you raised $2000 for Polio Eradication initiative asked of all Clubs as we Count Down to Zero? How have your tree planting initiatives gone? Our goal is 30,000 trees in honour of all attendees of the International Convention. Contact Kevin Power to provide him details of any local or international projects. (And don’t forget to bookmark Earth Day – April 22nd – for our Rotary Family & Friends Tree Planting, where we’ll plant over 2,000 trees in a single day.)

Our convention is drawing closer, and activities are ramping up. Has your Club, or members, signed up to hold a Host Hospitality Dinner? (Or paired with a local Toronto Club.) Have you and your friends individually registered to be a volunteer? (Details will follow soon…but you need to register to receive news!) And, most exciting, our HOC events are all online now. Please, purchase your own tickets, and promote within your Clubs and on social media. These events are key to our own district’s financial success during the convention.

If anyone has questions about the convention, or how they can help – please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours In Rotary,

Neil
