In his September 2021 Newsletter, during Basic Education and Literacy Month, District Governor Ron Dick talks about his many DG visits to clubs in August and challenges every club to add the “Free Reading Program” to their club website. He invites everyone to register today for the September 14 Tuesday Talks on Youth Service, and asks us to get ready with our pledges and donations for our Rotary Foundation Walk in Trenton on September 26 ...........

Hello District 7070 Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors and Earlyactors!

I had a busy month in August with my first in person DG Joint Visit with the Rotary Club of Toronto Danforth and the Rotaract and Interact Clubs of Toronto Danforth for a Sunday picnic with 85% attendance!  Also had a virtual & virtual hybrid DG Visits with the Rotary Clubs of Willowdale, North York, Toronto Forest Hill, Trenton, Campbellford, Wellington, Cobourg, Richmond Hill and Aurora!

I enjoyed my first in person / hybrid DG visit with the Rotary Clubs of Stirling (host), Quinte Sunrise and Brighton.  While in Stirling I had the opportunity to see the Stirling Recycling Bottle Collection Trailer with Stirling President, Lianne Radocsay, AG Kim Hulsman, DGN John Burns and Stirling Sgt at Arms Donna Graff!

The September Rotary theme is Basic Education and Literacy Month.  Over 776 million people over the age of 15 are illiterate.  That’s 17 percent of the world’s adult population.  I challenge each Rotary Club of our District to add the “Free Reading Program” to your club website.  For more information please contact, Joan Barrett, Literacy Area of Focus Coordinator.

Our very popular Tuesday Talks will continue on September 14th at 7pm with Youth Services!  This will be a very timely presentation with the Global Youth Exchange program going back into action for July 2022.  Of course that means our work begins now to select our outgoing students to represent our Communities, our District and Canada!  Equally important to be ready with our Club Counselors and host families to welcome the amazing International Youth Exchange students to our Communities, our District and Canada!  Be sure to go to the District 7070 webpage, Events Calendar (tab in top menu bar) and register to attend September’s Tuesday Talks!

While we do have the 4th wave of the Covid pandemic to be cautious of, as we all vaccinate, I am looking forward to safely getting back together in person- handshakes and hugs!   There are many club visits and club events scheduled for September and our District Foundation Walk set for Sunday, September 26th in Trenton.  Stay tuned for our District Foundation Walk details as we monitor the Health Unit recommendations to safely get together in Trenton!

We are almost there- Stay safe!

Yours in Rotary,

DG Ron
