Nominations for the position of District Governor for the Rotary year 2022-23

Hello Everyone,
District 7070 is looking for Rotarians who are interested in leading our District as Governor in the 2022-2023 Rotary year – July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023.
All Rotary Clubs in District 7070 are invited to submit suggestions to me on or before Friday, January 12, 2020. Nomination forms should be scanned and sent by email to dgbeth@bethselby.com. Receipt of each form will be made by return email. Please retain the original form......

Please use the attached nomination form, noting that each club may suggest only one of its own members as a candidate for the position of Governor-Nominee (term of office begins July 1, 2020) as per Rotary International By-Law 14.020.4. Also attached are District Election Guidelines provided by Rotary International.
Duly-nominated candidates will be interviewed on the evening of Wednesday January 29, 2020 in Meeting Room 2 at the Whitby Public Library.
According to our District 7070 Guideline of Policy and Procedure, the Nominating Committee consists of four past district governors, preferably the immediate four Past District Governors if available, plus the current Governor who acts as chair. Note that the District Governor Elect (DGE) and the District Governor Nominee (DGN) are invited to attend the interviews, but do not have the right to vote.
At the end of this email, I have provided Rotary International's By-Laws with respect to formal qualifications for the position of District Governor.
If anyone would like additional information or to speak with me in confidence about their interest in the position of District Governor, I would be delighted to speak with them. I am also certain that Immediate Past District Governor Mary Lou Harrison, DGE Mark Chipman, DGN Ron Dick, and/or anyone who has served as District Governor would be happy to provide insight into what the position entails.

P.S. Allow me to further outline the process for clubs to nominate a club member to become the District Governor. According to Rotary International By-Laws, a club's suggestion for District Governor shall be submitted by a resolution naming the suggested candidate adopted at a regular club meeting and certified by the secretary. A club shall only suggest one of its own members. The business of the club is conducted by voice or a show of hands except in the election of officers and directors, which is conducted by ballot. The Board may also provide a ballot for a vote on some resolutions. Please note the revised date for submissions is January 12th.
16.070. Qualifications of a Governor-nominee.
Unless specifically excused by the board, no person shall be selected as nominee for governor unless the Rotarian has the following qualifications at the time of selection.
16.070.1. Rotarian in Good Standing.
The Rotarian must be a member in good standing of a functioning club in the district.
16.070.2. Rotarian Maintaining Full Qualifications of Membership.
The Rotarian must have full qualifications for such membership in the strict application of the provisions therefor, and the integrity of the Rotarian’s classification must be without question.
16.070.3. Rotarian’s Qualification as Past President of Club.
The Rotarian must have served as president of a club for a full term or be a charter president of a club having served the full term from the date of charter to 30 June, provided that this period is at least six months.
16.070.4. Rotarian’s Ability to Fulfill Duties of Governor.
The Rotarian must demonstrate willingness, commitment, and ability, physically and otherwise, to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the office of governor as provided in section 16.090.
16.070.5. Rotarian’s Certification of Qualifications.
The Rotarian must demonstrate knowledge of the qualifications, duties, and responsibilities of governor as prescribed in the bylaws and submit to RI, through its general secretary, a signed statement that the Rotarian understands clearly such qualifications, duties, and responsibilities. Such statement shall also confirm that the Rotarian is qualified for the office of governor and willing and able to assume the duties and responsibilities of that office and to perform them faithfully.
16.080. Qualifications of a Governor.
Unless specifically excused by the board, a governor at the time of taking office must have attended the international assembly for its full duration, been a member of one or more Rotary clubs for at least seven years and must continue to possess the qualifications in section 16.070.
