In his January 2018 letter to Rotarians, Past District Governor Michael Bell, thanks Rotarians and Rotary Clubs for their contributions to The Rotary Foundation that make such a positive difference in the lives of so many people worldwide. He encourages Clubs to meet and exceed their goals that they have sent into Ted Morrison and placed on to Rotary Club Central for the Annual Programs Fund, the Polio Fund, and the Endowment Funds. He asks the Clubs to carry out their plans to make those important contributions. And he talks about a new kind of RRSP. Here is his letter....

A NEW KIND OF RRSP?

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

When you joined your local Rotary Club, the Foundation of Rotary International opened up a registered account in your name to keep a record for you of your financial support of our Rotary Foundation and for charitable tax receipt purposes.

Now that the holiday season is behind us, our thoughts turn to year-end tax planning, including RRSP’s. Here in District 7070, I would like to introduce you to a new kind of RRSP, the Registered Rotary Support Plan. After looking after our families needs there is no other charitable organization (in my opinion) that deserves our financial support more than our own Rotary Foundation. Our Rotary Foundation has made contributing even easier with Rotary Direct, enabling you to support the Foundation on a regular basis by credit card or directly from your bank account. Your financial support (of any amount) helps Rotary to provide the necessary funds to match your Global Grant Projects, District Grant Projects and much, much more. If you have not already done so please consider this new RRSP as your way to help Rotary continue making a difference at home in our own community and around the world. Rotarians do make the world a better place in which to live.

Has your Rotary Club committed, once again this Rotary year, their support to contribute $20.00 per member for our PolioPlus Program and $100.00 per member for the Annual Programs Fund? There are still a few clubs who have not entered these goals into Rotary Club Central nor given them to Past District Governor Ted Morrison at ted.sharron@rogers.com, for the 2017-18 Rotary Year. Please help us out. Please make certain that these goals are entered as soon as possible.

Again this year, your contributions to the PolioPlus Program will be matched on a 2 for 1 basis by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Yes, you are making the difference!

As stated earlier our Rotary Foundation provides the money from our donations in support of our Grants Program. These funds come from our donations to the Annual Programs Fund. Your Grants can be used for both local and international projects. It is interesting to note that there are more clubs applying for Grants than we have funds to fully match. This is most encouraging, however, to meet this increased demand it means that we need to raise more money for the Annual Programs Fund each year. Your club and personal donations will help to make that happen and remember to donate through Rotary Direct and your new RRSP, the Registered Rotary Support Plan.

Are there any prospective Major Donors in the District? Please advise Past District Governor Bill Patchett or myself if you or someone that you know wishes to consider taking the next step to support our Rotary Foundation. My thanks to each and every one of you, once again, for your financial support and for all that you do for Rotary and District 7070.

Michael
