The May 2020 District 7070 Newsletter  featured an offer by Past Rotary International President Wilf Wilkinson and Belleville Rotary Club Literacy Committee Chair Sharon McConnell, to assist parents by providing them with free downloads of several hundred Maloney Method lessons in reading, math and spelling. The response has been heartening. More than two hundred families have downloaded lessons so far. Past President Wilf noted, “I think the radio interview and the Public Service Announcement on radio station 95.5 Hits FM helped. The best part is that these parents downloaded a set of 5-10 lessons at first, then a few days later they return and download a lot more.”

The response has also gone global according to Literacy Chair Sharon, “We have families from the local area, families across Ontario, and across Canada, but we were a bit surprised at the number of countries whose families have learned of this Maloney Method outreach. We have Americans, Australians, Brits, Swedes and Icelanders signing up as well. It looks like Rotary is helping again.”

The free download program will continue until the COVID19 Pandemic is under control.

For more details on this program, be sure to read the May 20, 2020 "Rotary Service in Action" Blog by Past Rotary International President Wilf Wilkinson titled: "Rotary clubs provide access to learning resources during pandemic".  https://rotaryserviceblog.org/2020/05/29/rotary-clubs-provide-access-to-learning-resources-during-pandemic/

They have more than 400 lessons in reading, math, spelling, writing and reading comprehension that they will make available free through Rotary for parents, teachers and therapists during the COVID-19 epidemic.

They are working as fast as possible to provide as much help as possible. Over 100 of these lessons in reading and math are currently  posted on their website, https://www.maloneymethod.com/education-resources/free-lessons/

To download these lessons, the instructor (parent) simply fills in their first name, last name and e-mail address.

These lessons have a specific step-by-step lesson plan for the instructor, a student reader and a student workbook. There are placement tests available to get the student into the appropriate level of the reading, spelling or math programs. There are checkouts that the student does at the end of every lesson to demonstrate competency and be able to move to the next lesson. It is a complete package of recipes.
