Past District Governor Mark Chipman and the District Governor Team hosted the annual District Govern Changeover Ceremony and Awards Presentations for more than 130 Rotarians and Rotaractors and their spouses from all over District 7070, on June 30, 2021 ONLINE, as Past District Governor Mark recognized many clubs, Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors for their outstanding contributions to Rotary during this year.......

DISTRICT 7070 YOUTH SERVICES AWARDS:

DG Mark paid a lovely tribute to Patti Wright, our District 7070 Youth Service Chair for many years,  who passed away last week. He told everyone how much Patti Wright meant to District 7070 and the Youth of our District. She will be missed. Our deepest sympathies to her family. Mark thanked her committee (Rotaract - Shauna Moore and District Rotaract Rep Katheine Kirk Wahl; Interact - Laura Bradford, for their outstanding work this year, all in the midst of the pandemic.

DISTRICT INSPIRATIONAL AWARD – This award recognizes one outstanding Interactor within the District who was inspired to demonstrate outstanding achievement in Rotary and in the community both locally and internationally and through his or her actions has been an inspiration to others to do the same. 

Ahmed Abdelghany  - Interact Club of Earl Haig Secondary School - While many Interact Clubs struggled to stay active and some closed, Ahmed started a new club at Etobicoke Collegiate

 

DISTRICT LEADERSHIP AWARD – This award recognizes an Interactor who has volunteered time toward improving and enriching the community and/or leadership initiatives that have positively affected the quality of life of others.

Emily Song - Newmarket/Aurora Interact Club - Emily, as the Senior Project Manager of our club, shows leadership in our club by taking initiative during our fundraisers and events, participating in meetings, and encouraging other members to participate

 

DISTRICT INTERACT CONNECTIONS AWARD – This award is for keeping the Interact Club connected with Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors, and the District continuously throughout the year.

District Interact Presidents: Ahmed Abdelghany, Pearl Bawa, Charlie Kamra, Imran Kirefu and Nathan Brown -- The District Interact Presidents group was formed in September 2020 and these Interact Presidents have connected Interact with Rotarians and Rotaractors while keeping their own clubs active in service.

DISTRICT SOCIAL AWARD – This award is for keeping members connected which is key to maintaining a healthy, energized club; by working together we can continue to succeed in the district.

Etobicoke Collegiate Institute - Even in between the Pandemic, there was never a dull moment in the Interact Club of Etobicoke Collegiate Institute. From May 2020 to June 2021, the club hosted/participated in over 20 events!

 

DISTRICT OUTSTANDING PROJECT AWARD – Recognizes Interactors who are making a sustainable impact in one of Rotary's areas of focus through their innovative community or international service projects

Etobicoke Collegiate Institute - President, Pearl Bawa - Week long Days for Girls workshop during the Covid-19 Pandemic to create components of the reusable sanitary pad kits to be distributed to those in underdeveloped countries around the world!

 

 

DISTRICT ROTARACT AWARDS: conducted by District 7070 Rotaract Representative Katherine Kirk Wahl

Shauna Moore thanked Katherine Kirk Wahl for all of her work as District 7070 Rotaract Representative and welcomed the 2021-22 District 7070 Rotaract  Rep Stacey Chikoto Wahl to carry on the excellent work done by the Rotaractors of District 7070 in 2020-21.

Master Advertiser Award: This award recognizes one amazing Rotaractor who went above and beyond to recruit new members and promote club events. They know the Rotary and Rotaract elevator pitch so well that they say it in their sleep!

Enthusiastic Rotaractor Award: This is awarded to Rotaractors who ALWAYS showed enthusiasm when at Rotary, Rotaract, or affiliate events. They bring the energy and keep us entertained. Period.

Dayna Nelson (Rotaract Club Of Toronto)

 

Exemplary Rotaractor Award: This is awarded to Rotaractors who embody what it means to be part of the Rotary family. Whether it be the four-way test or the code of conduct, they live, breathe, sleep Rotaract.

2020-21 District Governor Mark Chipman, recognized many clubs, Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors for their outstanding contributions to Rotary during his year as District Governor. Congratulations to all of the recipients . 

Rotary International Service Above Self Award -  to Bill MacKay - Rotary Club of Belleville

Earlier in the year, Bill MacKay receive the highest award the Rotary can bestow on one of its members. The purpose of this award is to recognize those individual Rotarians who have demonstrated exemplary humanitarian service, in any form and at any level, with emphasis on personal volunteer efforts and active involvement in helping others through Rotary. Well deserved Bill. 

 

Doug Dempsey Literacy Award - to the Rotary Clubs of Scarborough and Willowdale

The District 7070 Rotary Club or individual Rotarian that exhibits the best examples of project(s) designed to promote domestic and/or international literacy. 

Norm Simpson Award for International Service - to Rotary Clubs of Whitby-Sunrise, Toronto, and Toronto Danforth

This trophy is awarded annually to the club in the district that made the most outstanding contribution to the International Service of Rotary during the preceding Rotary year. 

 

Tibor Gregor Community Service Award - to the Rotary Club of Coburg (their COVID vaccine clinics) 

This award is given to the club with the best Community Service project during the year. 

 

The Rotary Foundation Trophy Certificate - to Rotary Clubs of Toronto Sunrise, Campbellford, and Toronto 

This is awarded to the three clubs that have the highest per capita contribution to The Rotary Foundation Programs for the previous Rotary year ending June 30th.  Each in one of the following three categories: clubs with less than 25 members, clubs with 25-30 members, and clubs with more than 50 members.

 

 

The Devon & Linda Biddle Annual Fund Certificate - to Rotary Clubs of Scarborough Passport, Campbellford, and Toronto    

This award is given to the three clubs that have the highest per capita contribution to The Rotary Foundation Annual Fund Program for the previous Rotary year ending June 30th.  Each in one of the following three categories: clubs with less than 25 members, clubs with 25-30 members, and clubs with more than 50 members.

 

The Bill & Delphine Patchett Polio Plus Certificate - to Rotary Clubs of Scarborough Passport, Campbellford, and Toronto   

This award is given to the three clubs that have the highest per capita contribution to The Rotary Foundation Polio Plus Fund Program for the previous Rotary year ending June 30th. Each in one of the following three categories: clubs with less than 25 members, clubs with 25-30 members, and clubs with more than 50 members.   

 

 

Austin Bodie Singing Award- to the Rotary Clubs of Oshawa and Brighton 

This awarded to the club with the best record for singing.  Judging is by the District Governor on his or her visits to the clubs.

 

Oddy Robson Memorial Award - to the Rotary Club of Oshawa (the interclub meeting with the RC of Moscow) 

This presented to the club that contributes most to inter-club fellowship. 

 

Basil Tippet  Award - to the Rotary Clubs of Agincourt, Colborne, and Whitby 

This awarded to the club with the highest member retention ratio based on clubs’ membership at the beginning of the Rotary year. 

 

Wally Large Memorial Award - to the Rotary Club of Colborne 

This awarded to the club with the highest percentage increase of membership growth for the past twelve month period. 

 

Internal Communications Award - to the Rotary Club of Uxbridge

This award covers communication within or between clubs and is open to all clubs by application.  The application should include samples of internet sites, club bulletins, coverage in Rotary News or samples of Rotary education campaigns.

 

External Public Relations Award - to the Rotary Club of Bowmanville (with their Summer Squad program)          

This award honours clubs that have generated increased awareness and understanding of Rotary through media coverage or public relations efforts. 

Environmental Action Award - to the Rotary Clubs of Whitby, Toronto Eglinton, Stirling, and Pickering

 

Club Collaboration Award -awarded to the Club(s) who collaborated with other Clubs to make a difference! :  to the Eastern District Clubs, to the Durham Region Rotary Clubs, Toronto lLeaside, and to the Clubs supporting the Fort York Food Bank (Toronto Sunrise, Rotaract GTA Connect ) 

 

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Award - awarded to the Club(s) or Rotarian(s) who made the greatest contribution to the advancement of diversity, equity and inclusion:  to the Rotary Clubs of Toronto, To John Currie (Rotary HIP), and Toronto Danforth

 

 

The Worst Zoom User Award – Awarded this year to the person who had to be told the most times “You are on mute” or “Please go on mute” - Too many people, including DG Mark, to mention!

 

Youth Services Award – to the Rotary Clubs of Toronto West, Campbellford, and North York 

This award recognizes a club that has provided outstanding service to youth over an extended period.  All segments of Youth Services qualify for consideration including EarlyAct, Interact, Rotaract, Youth Exchange, RYLA, community or international service focused on youth.

Les Faludy Leadership Award -  to Club Presidents Niecy Dillon of Whitby-Sunrise and Ruud Roeleveld of Coburg

This award is made to the Club President who, in the judgment of the District Governor, provided the most outstanding leadership during the preceding Rotary year. 

 

Council of Past District Governors Award - to Gord Ley of the Rotary Club of Coburg 

This is awarded annually to the Rotarian of the District who had made the greatest service contribution during the preceding year.

 

Bob Scott Disease Prevention Award - to Bob and Margaret Jarvest- Rotary Club of Whitby-Sunrise (their years of Rotary service work in Dominican Republic)

This award is made to a Rotarian, Rotary Club or Friend of Rotary who, in the judgment of the District Governor, made a significant contribution to disease prevention and treatment in Rotary District 7070 and beyond.  Barry Mount's company HMA Benefits donated $500 to this year's recipient to go towards the charity of their choice. Congratulations Bob and Margaret.
