Past District Governor Neil Phillips and the District Governor Team hosted a reception for more than 120 Rotarians and Rotaractors and their spouses from all over District 7070, on July 8, 2018 at the Scarborough Golf and Country Club, as Past District Governor Neil (ably assisted by District Governor Mary Lou Harrison and District Governor-elect Beth Selby) recognized many clubs, Rotarians, and Rotaractors for their outstanding contributions to Rotary during his year as District Governor. Some of the Awards and Citations deadlines were not completed until June 30, and PDG Neil decided that these awards would be presented later in this new Rotary year. .....

The Ed Storie District Conference Award:  This award, named after 1962-63 Past District Governor Ed Storie,( from the Rotary Club of Oshawa), is given to the club that has the best percentage attendance at the District Conference. Congratulations to the Rotary Club under 25 members - Rotary Club of Courtice; to the Rotary Club with 26 to 50 members – Rotary Club of Toronto, and to the Rotary Club with more than 50 members - Rotary Club of Etobicoke.

The Austin Bodie Singing TrophyThis is awarded to the club with the best record for singing. Judging is by the District Governor on his or her visits to the clubs. Congratulations to this year's winner - the Rotary Club of Cobourg.

The Club Bulletin Plaque : Congratulations to the Rotary Club of Wellington for a consistently outstanding weekly bulletin as judged by the District Governor.

District Internal Communications Award: This award covers communications within or between clubs and is open to all clubs by application. The application should include samples of internet sites, club bulletins, coverage in Rotary News or samples of internal Rotary education campaigns. This year, the award goes to the Rotary Club of Toronto-Eglinton.

The  Public Relations Award and District External PR Award: This award honours clubs that have generated increased awareness and understanding of Rotary through media coverage or public relations efforts. This year the District Governor Team decided to present 3 awards. The first award for outstanding media and public relations went to the Rotary Club of Toronto-Leaside for their 4-page media spread. The Award that best media presentation for a local service project went to the Rotary Club of Ajax for their work with the Durham Regional police. The Award that best media presentation for an international service project went to the Rotary Club of Toronto Bay-Bloor and their ping pong tables.

Doug Dempsey Literacy Award: This award, named after 1990-91 Past District Governor Doug Dempsey (from the Willowdale Rotary Club),  goes to the District 7070 Rotary Club or individual Rotarian that exhibits the best examples of a project(s) designed to promote domestic and/or international literacy. Congratulations to the Rotary Club of Scarborough for their work on their Reading Program. 

Tibor Gregor Community Service Award:  This award, named after 1964-65 Past District Governor Tibor Gregor (from the Toronto-Eglinton Rotary Club),  is given to the Club with the best Community Service Project during the year. Congratulations to the Rotary Club of Toronto-Sunrise for spearheading their work, along with other clubs, with the Fort York Food Bank.  

The Norm Simpson Trophy for International Service: This trophy, named after 1982-83 Past District Governor Norm Simpson (from the Toronto  Rotary Club) is awarded annually to the club in the district that, in the opinion of the District Governor, after consultation with his or her predecessor, made the most outstanding contribution to the International Service of Rotary during the preceding Rotary year. Congratulations to the Rotaract District 7070 E Club for their efforts with the flood victims of Nepal. 

District Youth Services Award: This award recognizes a club that has provided outstanding service to Youth over an extended period. All segments of Youth Services qualify for consideration, including Rotaract, Interact, EarlyAct, RYLA, Youth Exchange, community or international service focused on Youth, etc. The award will be approved by the DG in consultation with the District Youth Services Chair, Youth Exchange Chair, and others as appropriate. This year, the District Governor Team selected the entire District 7070 Youth Exchange Committee for their efforts in promoting Youth Exchange.

The Basil Tippet Trophy: This trophy, named after 1954-55 Past District Governor Basil Tippet (from the Toronto  Rotary Club) is awarded to the club with the highest member retention ratio, based on the club’s membership at the beginning of the Rotary year. Congratulations to the Rotary Club of Scarborough Bluffs.

The Wally Large Memorial Trophy: This trophy is awarded to the club with the highest percentage increase of membership growth for the past twelve month period. Reported membership on successive July 1st attendance reports is used to calculate this award. Congratulations, this year to the Rotary Club of Toronto Bay-Bloor.

Special Presentation: Past District Governor Mike Cooksey and Co-Chair of the 2018 Rotary International Convention Host Organizing Committee, presented a Plaque to Past District Governor Neil Phillips for his outstanding work assisting the Host Organizing Committee, as Home Governor of the 2018 Rotary International Convention
