Rotarians around the world know that Rotary began in Chicago in 1905 and we officially began our fight to “End Polio Now” in 1985.
Did you realize that in 1917 Past Rotary International President Arch Klumph created an endowment fund with the purpose of “doing good in the world”?
The first contribution was less than $30, and in 1928, when the endowment fund had grown to $5,000, it was renamed the Rotary Foundation.
The Foundation has continued to grow and today it really does “do good in the world”.
You and your fellow Rotarians have made this happen. Large contributions as well as small really make a difference to those in your community and around the world. In this month of Thanksgiving, please remember all that you have and all that you have given to make the lives of others better. Thank you.
Are you helping our cause?
Have you ever met Galena Rotarian, AG Toni Lucas?
Toni is the little woman that sports the straw hat with the $2 bill stuck in its brim.
I’ve known Toni for many years and have heard dozens ask about the $2 bill! Her answer? Donate $2 per week and at the end of the year you’ve donated over $100 to the Rotary Foundation and are well on your way to becoming a Paul Harris Fellow. PDG Jim Prather of the Quad Cities Rotary club can tell you similar stories. I think Jim would even give you a $2 bill if you asked him! (Thanks, Jim).

On Nov. 16, the Putnam County Junior High Interact club sorted and packaged five large boxes of used medicine bottles to be shipped to Malawi, Africa.
The club’s 2015-2016 international project is “Medicine Bottles for Malawi.” This is an ongoing not-for-profit group that helps bring medicine bottles from the U.S. to third-world countries where they currently dispense medicine wrapped in old newspaper.
We can TRULY be a GIFT TO THE WORLD as we head into the giving season!
Clubs large and small can offer students ages 15-19 the opportunity to spend next summer with a student from another country – four weeks here and four weeks there!
STEP ONE: Decide how many students your Club will sponsor @ $300 each.
STEP TWO: Let your community know that your Rotary Club can make SUMMER YOUTH EXCHANGE happen in your community! Get the word out to local high schools, foreign language teachers, Interact Clubs and local papers – a chance to showcase our “international” side!
Need help getting there? We have brochures, sample press releases, morning school announcements, and even one-one contact with any students & parents interested! Students can apply in December or early January.
Do you have that urge to travel the world and at the same time build partnerships with Rotarians around the world? If so, there is a fantastic opportunity available for up to 10 Rotarians.

Students ages 15-19 in the Stephenson County area will have an amazing opportunity to participate in a summer youth exchange program.
Participants will only be responsible for travel costs, passport fees and spending money. There are no administrative fees for this program. The Freeport Noon Rotary Club 3067 will offer three $1,000 stipends to cover travel expenses.
The Short Term Youth Exchange Program, sponsored by Freeport Noon Rotary Club 3067, offers the chance for a student to be paired with another student in a country of their choice. The students will spend four weeks in each of their homes as they share in one another's culture and family life. This opportunity is hosted by each student's local Rotary Club.
