Congratulations, Bobbi! Roberta (Bobbi) Burke has been selected to lead our District 6420 during Rotary Year 2019-2020.
The selection was made by the District Nominating Committee at its Dec. 3 meeting in Sterling. Per district bylaws and procedures, the announcement is made today, confirming that the Committee's Nomination is adopted and approved.
Bobbi's term will follow those of Current District Governor Scott Shore (2016-2017), Steve Kuhn (2017-2018) and Kathy Kwiat-Hess (2018-2019). Meanwhile, Rotary District 6420 District Governor Nominee Designate Roberta "Bobbi" Burke will participate in preparatory seminars and meetings at all Rotary levels, offered to each newcomer to the "DG line" of succession.
DGND Bobbi is a member of the Rochelle Rotary Club, having joined in 1988. She was the club's third female member and their first to have a baby! After the birth of her third child in 1991, she took a hiatus from Rotary until her youngest started school. During that time she kept her hand in community service as co-chair of a committee to build a new "KidsGround" playground in Rochelle.
What if you had the opportunity to host a reception for Rotary International President John Germ of USA, President-Elect Ian Riseley of Australia, President-Nominee Sam Owori of Uganda, VP Jennifer Jones of Canada, and all the RI Directors? WE DO!

Events will begin with HQ tours from 1-3 pm, followed by a joint presentation of "The ABCs of Rotary" at 3 pm, and "THE RECEPTION OF RECEPTIONS" at 4:30 pm. Those wishing to stay for the evening may do so; a block of rooms will be reserved nearby.

Your club can sponsor a local student to apply for a $30,000+ full-year scholarship to pursue a post-graduate degree! Please help us get the word out to students home on break, recent college graduates in your community and others interested.
Our district is currently seeking applicants with demonstrated commitment to community service and an interest in studying abroad in a field that relates to one of Rotary's six areas of focus: peace and conflict resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, education and literacy, and vocational development and independence.
Those interested or seeking more info can contact District Chair Ed Andersen of Sterling Rotary at eander1@yahoo.com or 815-564-7747. Applications can be accepted throughout the year and can be tailored to each student's post-graduate academic schedule.

District 6420 and the Rotary Club of Galena will be participating in a new Rotary program: New Generation Exchange.
This program is designed for young people ages 18-25, giving them an opportunity to live in another country for up to three months, learn about the culture while fostering goodwill and understanding. The exchange can also include a vocational element.
Carolina Villarroel, 19, a student at Universidad Catolica in Santiago, Chile, will arrive in the United States on Dec. 29 and stay in the home of Galena Rotarian P. Carter Newton for the first part of her exchange experience.
Carolina, who is training to be a nurse, has four goals for her exchange experience which extends to March 5 when she returns to Chile: a) improve her English language skills; b) learn about the United States; c) have opportunities to job shadow; and d) engage in volunteer activities.
Please remember to include:
1. Deadlines for submissions/registrations.
2. Any logos or visuals that help tell the story.
3. Names of people in photos. We love photos of Rotarians!
Thanks for your contributions! Let us help you spread the good news.
