On April 13, 25 students from United Township High School signed up to job shadow Career Professionals in East Moline and Silvis.

For the past 25 years, the Rotary Club of East Moline-Silvis organizes “Job Shadow Day” in which high school seniors are paired with a Rotarian or another professional in their chosen career field. Rotary Chair Jim Hughes said, “You can learn a lot more about jobs by experiencing them in the actual setting than you can in any other way.”

Francisco Lopez and Sandra Camarillo shadowed Dr. Greg Solis from East Moline to give them a taste of what it is like to be a dentist. Both Francisco and Sandra would like to stay in the Quad Cities to attend college at Black Hawk College and Augustana College. Francisco said, “It’s nice to have a live look-in on a career that I am considering pursuing.”

Additional job-shadow sites included Niabi Zoo, Rock Valley Physical Therapy, Children’s Therapy Center, East Moline Police Department, McClure Engineering and more.

The Rotary Club of East Moline-Silvis is a group of community minded business professionals joining together in "Service Above Self" since 1919. The club meets every Thursday at 12:15 p.m. at Christ Church in East Moline.
