I can’t believe we are in the last month of our Rotary year.  We have accomplished so much during this year.  Our membership is definitely on the climb.  Several clubs have had membership open houses that have paid off in new members.  All of our clubs continue to do excellent service throughout their individual communities.  It has truly been inspiring to travel around the district and hear about and see some of those projects in action.   Many of our clubs have enhanced their public image efforts this year to let others know of all the good that is being done by Rotarians.

Contributing to The Rotary Foundation is a huge part of being a Rotarian.  If you haven’t yet made your contribution this year, I encourage you to do so soon.  Many of our clubs have surpassed their Foundation giving goals, which is exciting!  I am stepping into the District Rotary Foundation Chair this next Rotary year, so you will be hearing more from me on this topic in future months.  The Rotary Foundation is what drives our efforts to do good in our communities and throughout the world.

We had a very successful District Conference in Galena in May.  There were inspirational speakers, most of whom came out of our district, who spoke about projects being done throughout the world.  We had a lot of great fun and fellowship throughout the weekend.  $3,000 was raised during the weekend for the PolioPlus fund.  Awards were presented to clubs and individuals in the areas of literacy and public image.  Brandy Sandberg, the current President of Putnam County, was awarded the Club Officer of the Year.  PDG Ruth Lee was awarded the Rotarian of the Year.  We also presented deceased Rotarian Sam Wray of Rock Island with the Service Above Self Passion award, a new award this year.  His wife, Hilde, was on hand to accept it.

This is Rotary fellowship month.  Many of us are headed to Hamburg, Germany, for the RI Convention, and I am excited about the opportunity to be even more inspired by speakers and meet Rotarians from throughout the world.

It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as your District Governor this Rotary year.  I look forward to working with many of you as we move forward.
