Three years of leadership! Seated: Linda Nelson, Jan and Steve Kuhn; Standing: Jim Nelson, Scott and Adriane Shore

With the theme "Let Rotary's Good Times Roll....!", District Governor Scott Shore was installed June 26 at Wise Guys Banquet Center in Princeton, Illinois.

Over 100 attended and enjoyed Chef Jeff's Sunday Brunch buffet, great fellowship and the opportunity to watch as the gavel passed through the hands of 14 past district governors who each in turn recounted their own themes and RI Presidents.

Included in the installation ceremony were District Vice Governor and PDG Shannon Scheffel of Loves Park Rotary, District Governor Elect Steve Kuhn of Sycamore Rotary and District Governor Nominee Kathy Kwiat-Hess of Rockford Rotary.

Following district tradition, the new DG was also called upon to install the new Board and Officers of his home Club, Putnam County Rotary, whose members hosted the event.

Also honoring tradition, Immediate Past District Governor Jim Nelson's home Club Past President Russ Johansson of Rockford Rotary presented incoming PC Rotary President Randy Borio with the traveling "Home Club of The District Governor" banner for display at PC Rotary meetings this year.

Scott and Adriane seized the opportunity to recognize one of PC Rotary's finest, and most "vintage" member, Darrell Alleman, whose contributions to the club have included service as Youth Exchange Officer through some 13 years and 28 inbound and outbound full-year Exchange Students, attendance at several International Conventions world-wide, and consummate volunteer in nearly every PC Rotary project, sometimes of his own creation.

Putnam County Rotarian Darrell Alleman

Such was the case when Darrell built a Field of Dreams on his farm, for free use by children and adults alike, and suggested three years ago that Rotary sponsor a Field of Dreams Night for all the children and ball teams in the county, to which he would invite one of the original ball players from the movie.

Darrell proved that if you build it, they will come, and they did -- eight of the original cast ghost players, in full 1919 uniform, and they have come each year since.

Also on hand for the kick-off of this year's Foundation Centennial, was Frank Goldberg, past Rotary International Director and Treasurer, of Omaha, NE. Frank's message, entitled "Inspire Higher" challenged those present to reach higher, and inspire others to do likewise, in our support of the Rotary Foundation this year. It is our dedication, as Rotarians, that will make it possible for us, and for Rotary, to impact the world, this year and beyond.

In closing, DG Scott thanked the event committee and all who attended. We have much to celebrate in this Centennial year, but many challenges ahead as we strive to be true to RI President John Germ's 2016-17 theme: "Rotary Serving Humanity."
