SYCAMORE -- About two dozen members of the DeKalb, Sycamore and Kishwaukee Sunrise Rotary Clubs rolled up their sleeves May 6 working for local agencies as part of their annual service day.

Rotarians at Work Day is an annual project involving these clubs, and other Rotary Clubs across the country; members offer their services to local not-for-profit and government organizaitions, helping them to complete maintenance, repair and charitable projects which they lack the resources and manpower to complete on their own.

Rotarians worked on the following projects:

  • The Pay it Forward House in Sycamore, helping with weeding and gardening
  • Rotary Park at Sycamore Lake, joining with other organizations on Park Pride Day to mulch the playground area
  • Kishwaukee Special Recreation Association, gathering at Hopkins Park to help clean the shelter and plant the interactive garden
  • A collection drive for the Amazing Grace Organization, which provides care packages to cancer patients; the collection took place at several locations in DeKalb and Sycamore

Still to come is an alternative project at the Youth Service Bureau; Rotarians will be helping with set-up and sales during the annual bicycle auction, at the YSB office in downtown DeKalb.

And the Sycamore Rotary Club was honored earlier in the week by other Rotary Clubs in the region for this project; the 2016 edition of Rotarians at Work Day was selected as one of two recipients of Rotary District 6420’s Club Project of the Year.  It shares the award with the Rock Falls Rotary Club.

The Sycamore Rotary Club meets every Wednesday at 11:45 a.m. at Blumen Gardens in Sycamore; for more information about the Rotary Club, you can go to the club website at www.sycamorerotary.org.
