Raised in the high desert of Southern California, Steve grew up on a large homestead ranch enjoying the Angeles National Forest as his backyard. He came to Nevada in 1972 and attended the University of Nevada Reno (UNR) and went on to graduate from Sierra Academy of Aeronautics in Oakland, Ca. in 1975. Steve returned to Northern Nevada in 1976 settling in Carson City to pursue a career in general aviation.

Steve managed a full line Cessna dealership recognized as the #1 dealership in the western region of the U.S. in 1980. During this time he continued to fly part time as a certified flight instructor, and an air-ambulance and charter pilot. Steve is a commercial rated pilot with more than 10,000 hours as pilot in command of various aircraft from single engine to corporate jets.

Steve shifted gears in 1983 and became Director of International Sales for Cubix Corporation in Carson City with extensive travel internationally selling and marketing microcomputers. In 1991 Steve founded Sterling Air, Ltd.; a full service fixed base operation located at the Carson City Airport. Sterling Air specializes in the sales of new and used general aviation aircraft.

Steve joined Rotary in 1995 serving as President of the Carson City Club in 1999-2000. During that year the club earned District 5190's Club of Excellence award and was second in the District in Foundation contributions. He has served the District for three years as Assistant Governor and since 2004 Steve has Chaired the Permanent Fund, Major Donor Committee where he helped raise more than $2 Million Dollars in new Bequest Society pledges. Steve is a multi Paul Harris Fellow, a charter member of the Paul Harris Society, a Bequest Society member and a Major Donor to the Rotary Foundation.

In addition to Rotary, Steve is a 25+ year member and Past Commander of the Carson City Sheriff's Aero Squadron having flown numerous search and rescue missions. He is a member of the Carson City Airport Authority, currently serving as its Chairman since 2006. Steve is an avid big game hunter and one wild sheep away from achieving the North American Grand Slam.

Steve has been married to his wife Ginny since 1984. She has been in public service since 1979 with the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles and has served under two Governors in the capacity of Director of the Agency since 2001. Ginny was honored as a Woman of Achievement in 2005 and has served on multiple boards nationally within the Motor Vehicle Community. Ginny recently retired to assist Steve in his new role as District Governor. Steve and Ginny have two grown children, Stephanie and Tyler, and all are proud Paul Harris Fellows.
