Joe Zarachoff (Cheryl)
District 5190 Governor 2014-2015
R.I. President, Gary C. K. Huang
International Theme: “Light Up Rotary”

Joe Z (as he is fondly known) grew up in the West Los Angeles area of Southern California.  He attended USC studying Accounting and Economics and started his professional life as a financial advisor with EF Hutton and then Paine Webber.  Not comfortable in that role Joe pursued a career as an Executive Recruiter, (also known as a Headhunter), working 7 years for Search West, the largest such firm in California at the time.

A self-taught computer programmer Joe moved to Las Vegas in 1993 and started Unique Software Applications, developing custom solutions for a variety of industries.  It was in 1999 that Joe relocated to his favorite vacation spot, the South Shore at Lake Tahoe.  He formed Affordable Business Services and expanded his offerings to include Credit Card Processing and other business services.

In 2006 Joe married Cheryl, a Certified Bookkeeper, merging their lives and their businesses.  Today Affordable Business Services offers its clientele an array of services and guidance with clients in Nevada, California and Hawaii.

A Rotarian since 2004 with the Rotary Club of Tahoe-Douglas, Joe served as their Club President in 2007-2008 and sat on their Board from 2006-13.  Cheryl is also a dedicated Rotarian and served as our District Treasurer from 2011-13.

Joe served as the Assistant District Governor for Area 9 from 2010-13 while also participating on many District Committees.  He has been an instructor at District Assembly and has participated on the RYLA Board as well as committees for District Training, PETS Planning, Future Vision Planning, Strategic Planning, Conference Planning and District Finance.

During the 2011-12 Rotary year Joe formed and chaired the new District Technology Committee dedicated to advancing Rotarian endeavors through the use of technology.  Joe and his team completed the adoption and conversion to ClubRunner as the District website, database and main communication tool.  Other advances have included the frequent use of online meetings and the forming of a social media committee.  There are several other projects being considered.

Joe and Cheryl (the Z’s) have hosted an RYE student from Brazil, participated in a Wheelchair Distribution to Mexico and have attended 3 International Conventions.

The Z’s are committed to the Rotary Foundation as both Joe and Cheryl are multiple Paul Harris Fellows, Benefactor supporters and members of the Bequest Society.  Joe is a Paul Harris Society member and together they are on track to reach Major Donor status by the time Joe assumes his position as District Governor in July 2014.

Joe and Cheryl enjoy visiting with Cheryl’s daughter Kim (who lives in Birmingham, Alabama), Elmo, attending concerts and all things digital.
