Bob Pearce
Bob Pearce (Cecelia) - Deceased
District Governor 1988-1989
R.I. President, Royce Abbey
International Theme, “Put Life Into Rotary – Your Life”

Times were simpler in ’88-89. When Bob was selected as District Governor Nominee of District 519 the chairman of the nominating committee, PDG Rafael “Doc” Dufficy congratulated him and told him to prepare a budget. There were no computer records, only handwritten copies of bills paid. After a review of the previous two or three years Bob estimated what expenses would be and how much income we might expect. A handwritten budget was presented and promptly approved. At the Hyatt Lake Tahoe Hotel on July 1, 1988 District Governor Paul Nielsen gave Bob two large cardboard boxes of District 519 records and the new District Governor took charge.

Bob was a widower when he interviewed as a nominee for DG. His club visits were without benefit of spousal support. His special lady, Cecelia did accompany him on some of the longer visits. “Women in Rotary” had taken place in the previous year so Bob became heir to long time members changing clubs and former club presidents resigning from Rotary. Also, a split of the district approved by the R.I. Board of Directors was contested by two or three clubs and the Board was forced to rescind its decision. Embarrassing!

Polio Plus was in its infancy and just getting started. We worked hard at getting all Rotarians involved. District 519 sent Jean Irwin to England as an Ambassadorial Scholar. Our Group Study Exchange was with Turkey. Bob was also a past district chair for G.S.E. Three new clubs were chartered in Bob’s year bringing the total number to 67 for District 519. The new clubs were and are Elko Desert Sunrise, Roseville Sunrise and Reno Sunrise.

Bob and Cecelia were married in 1990."
