The Rotary Club of El Paso knows what service is all about.  For the fifth year, the club is building a ramp in cooperation with the University of Texas – El Paso.  The project will benefit a family that cannot afford a ramp otherwise, giving mobility and ease of access to their home.

“We hope to extend lives through removal of mobility barriers such as three or four steep steps out of a mobile home,” said Rotarian David Kessinger.

All ramps constructed by the club are constructed with treated lumber for longevity, are Americans with Disabilities Act compliant and free of charge to the recipient and their family.

The Rotary Club of El Paso is one of three groups building in El Paso under the larger organization called The Texas Ramps Project with over 10,500 ramps built statewide in over 32 different regions, 190 of the 243 counties in Texas.  Given an average of 25 foot each ramp and an average of 60 hours each build, that’s over 630,000 volunteer hours and over fifty miles of ramp just in the past 10 years (10,000 plus hours in El Paso alone).  More information is available about The Texas Ramp Project 501.c.3 organization at the website:  at www.texasramps.org.
