Students from Waiopehu, Levin, Otaki and Manawatu Colleges descended on Donnelly Park in Levin on 13 and 14 February to take part in a Rotary Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA) programme. The Horowhenua / Levin  programme was the first of the season for District 9940. Pearl Newman from Road Safety Education who coordinates and oversees the programme and was high in praise of our Rotarians contribution.

Rotarians from Levin, Foxton and Otaki clubs worked alongside presenters and facilitators from Road Safety Education to deliver messages to our 16-17 years olds aimed at keeping them safe on the roads, no matter whether they are behind the wheel or travelling as a passenger. Students were involved in crash investigation, judging stopping distances, hazards and distractions, as well as hearing from crash survivors and relatives of those who have been affected by poor decisions on the road. There is no doubt that the activities and stories have impacted on these young people, with many positive comments received throughout the two days. The Rotarians involved in the programme are proud to support such a worthwhile initiative and we are thankful to the team from Road Safety Education for delivering another two days of learning which will help make up to 300 young people safer drivers on our roads. The  Wairarapa/ Dannevirke Programme is  to be held the week of 265th -> 29th of  March and Manawatu / Fielding 1st week of April. Kapiti College students will be attending RYDA at Southward Car Museum on 21st May.
